This place must be one of the best theatre bargains in the country. Top quality 'in the round' productions of sometimes obscure plays never fail to impress.
The very best actors appear here at very close quarters and bring everything to live with minimal props and setting. It is live theatre at it's very best.

The prices are a fraction of those charged in the West End, but seats are unreserved - you book 'downstairs' or 'upstairs'. You need to be there well before the performance, or you may find your party having to sit separately. It is bench seating, so take a cushion if this might be a problem.

A brilliant place with a wonderful atmosphere. Book early for new productions - they seem to be selling out very fast.
Masses of restaurants within minutes and situated right opposite Richmond Station.

Look out for the productions at the Orange Tree Theatre (I think it is the only true theatre in the round in London), as they find some really interesting, little-known productions, and cast them superbly. But book up quickly, or you will be disappointed. The theatre does not have a big capacity, and their shows sell out once the run is under way.

Born in the upstairs room of the pub over the road (hence the name) this is the only professional "in the round" theatre in the UK. It has remarkable quality and a passion for reviving Edwardian plays most of which are as topical today as when they were written. Very limited props and the proximity to the audience requires some serious acting abilities but the casts invariably are up to the challenge. You would be surprised how many extremely well known actors and actressess you will find in the audience!
If you like theatre, this is a must

The Orange Tree Theatre is arguably the finest out-of-centre theatre in London. A stream of creative productions overseen by the hugely imaginative director Sam Walters has been performed there for decades, and shows no sign of losing its dynamic. It is the living proof the theatre in the round can handle almost any kind of play, from Shakespeare to contemporary. We particularly rely on Walters and his wife to unearth plays which have been overlooked after their initial performances, and to direct them with verve that makes one wonder why they ever lost traction. It's small, not terribly comfortable, and the bar is often crowded, but the atmosphere is electric and for those who like real theatre, there's no place better.
