Visited Ham House last month and we thoroughly enjoyed our visited. We visited with several children and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The kids were given a game to play while there and they enjoyed themselves too.

The kitchen downstairs was lovely making fresh food to try. Defiantly worth a visit.

The lady working at the gate needs to learn some etiquette, she seems extremely uptight and comes across very aggressive. We had only just arrived, but soon after we all felt very tense. please when we pay to visit these beautiful homes it would make the day a lot nicer if one was greeted with a calmer friendlier in control approach. This woman clearly needed a few days off to evaluate whether being front of house is actually what she wants. Our day was effected let's say the staff.

I visited this wonderful Stewart mansion last year and it was terrific! It's probably one of the most atmospheric places I have ever visited with lots of history. One thing did catch my attention though. We were sat outside and my dad suddenly said he could smell pungent old fashioned cigar smoke and then me and my mum smelt it too. We thought it was strange as national trust properties don't usually allow smoking, plus it was almost closing time and we were sat on a seat near the front door of the house. We didn't think much of it though until we bought a book from the gift shop about the ghosts which are said to haunt there. It mentioned that one of the old Lords of the property fell from a window and landed by the seat we were sat on a died. Apparently people have said they can smell cigar smoke and it's meant to be his because he smoked a lot. How's that for coincidence!!!

This Stuart Mansion which nestles on the leafy banks of the River Thames at Richmond has been virtually unchanged for 400 years. It was a delight to wander round the well preserved and restored rooms of this house, ask questions of the many guides who were most helpful and knowledgeable and to admire the many treasures that were within. The well laid out gardens lead down to the river where one can continue walking along the tow paths back to Richmond or towards Kingston. Well worth making the effort.

Visited Summer 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ham House had more character, history and artefacts than Kensington Palace. Fantastic location, value for money, they even had cooks prepared food for visitors to try. We liked the basemen and garden was best feature.
