Visited Summer 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ham House had more character, history and artefacts than Kensington Palace. Fantastic location, value for money, they even had cooks prepared food for visitors to try. We liked the basemen and garden was best feature.

Really interesting house, lots to see. I came here on a weekend with my mum, we went round the various rooms of the house, there is a good selection of artwork and artifacts, there is very beautiful furniture. You can also check out the basement rooms where the kitchen and bar cellar was. The garden is the main attraction, very well maintained and very attractive on a sunny day, I enjoyed the garden tour, it was a good way to learn more about the history of the garden. Overall I had a good day, as a national trust member I went for free, but even for the entry fee it is well worth it.

Word of warning if you are going by public transport, it is a good 30mins from Richmond station, a 20min bus ride and them about a 10min walk to the house, but it was well worth the trip.

A very enjoyable 1/2 day was spent wandering around the house and grounds, there is a below stairs area were the kitchen staff and servants would be working, then you have to walk around the outside, to gain access to the main house, once inside, there are several rooms that you view, with all sorts of art work, furniture and wall coverings, all with their own story to tell, some dating back over 400 years, the guides were very informative in every area that we visited.
The Orangery, on a nice day is ideal, sitting outside with coffee and cake, looking at the vegetable garden, but lunch time can get very busy.
The Gardens are very well maintained, with very neatly cut yew hedges, box parterre and a beech hedged garden, the garden circumnavigates the entire house, which is an enjoyable walk in the good weather.
Then just outside, is the river Thames, which is very pleasant to stroll along, with the many boats going up and down it.
