I went here a couple of days a go for a quick lunch as i did some shopping. The decor is pleasant, clean and has purpose. The service at the bar was quick and attentive, although i have met the barman before so it may not be a fair representation. I ordered a Pint of Doombar and Ribeye steak. The Doombar was pleasant, a little above the temperature it should be, its hard to get doombar wrong. The Ribeye i ordered Medium Rare (as a Ribeye should be) sadly it came out perfectly medium, i hope some mis communication betweek FOH and the Kitchen. The watcress garnish was dry and wilting. The Chips very Fantasticly hot but unseasoned as was the steak. All in all it was an average experience with nothing worth complaining about. I will be giving it another visit in the hope i caught the chef on a bad day.

Clearly a lovely pub run by mostly lovely people but the barman that served us was uninterested and dismissive. Our food took over an hour because of him. A shame as everyone else was brilliant.

As a pub the Duke is great - good choice of wines and a range of real ales and usually a pretty vibrant atmosphere... but I've had dinner here twice and both times it left me a bit cold. Not bad, just not great - more akin to the sort of food you might expect at a banquet / large event rather than a gastro-pub. Somehow the food seemed to lack the colour and depth that the stylishness of the pub / restaurant would suggest.

We went for Sunday Lunch for seven people. The Restaurant was very busy as was the bar. The Table was ready on time and we were seated straight away. The service was good as usual and we were looked after very well. The only down side to this visit was the food was not hot. The food was good but had not be heated very well, this added to cold plates just took the edge off what would have been a good meal.

Dropped in on the off chance just before 16:00 on a Sunday to be told kitchen closes at 16:00 and re opens 18:00, so sat over a drink or two and a few packets of crisps whilst staff enjoyed their well deserved break and meal before kitchen opened up again.

It was bitterly cold outside so the four of us kicked off with pea & mint soup - delicious, but a bit more bread would have been nice!

We had chicken breast X2 & Gnocchi with goats’ cheese x2, good honest food, veg costs extra and if you're really hungry (as we were) you should go for the extra veg.

We were still hungry so Pear & Almond tart with ice cream and some cheese & busicuits shared (3 cheeses to chose from 6) first time we had seen Black Bomber Chedder for ages, so yes, that was chosen and fully devoured! The fourth sweet was a Pavlova, a bit too much cream inside, but still enjoyable.

Coffee or tea to finish off and a great selection of wines to start off with means that a really enjoyable gastro meal can be had here at The Duke.

The place is clearly very popular, as it was non stop busy, but we hadn't booked and were given a table straight away, so they clearly know how to look after their customers. If you get the chance, give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Our meal for 4 with some soft drinks but no wine was just shy of £100, quite reasonable considering the area. Would definitely go again if in the area!
