“Another great Wimbledon trip”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

We have stayed here a couple of times before, and used it as a base for Wimbledon last year. It is still as good, and a fantastic alternative to central London hotel. The facilities are great, cosy and classy traditional bar, smart restaurant and breakfast room and the rooms themselves are well decorated, larger than average and have character. My wife likes this hotel better than any of the central London ones we stay at because she can walk in deer park (next door) and walk into Richmond and Kew easily too. Richmond tube/rail is just a few minutes walk down the hill, so we went into the city as well as spending a couple of days at the tennis. The staff are very helpful, food is excellent and the spa is a bonus too and wasn't busy when we were there. Parking is right outside and is included in the price of the room if you get the right deal. We also went to Bocca restaurant in Richmond - well worth a 15 minute walk, but there's really no need as the hotel menu is very good. Not much to complain about really and still well worth the money.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are as big as most suites, so worth a bit extra.

The hotel is located in a very quiet and nice area, just in front of the Richmond park, so it is a perfect spot to do sports. It has a nice fitness area and pool. Rooms are a bit old, with quite lack of taste in decoration, honestly I would have expected a bit more from a 4 star hotel. If you go there, AVOID EATING IN THE HOTEL, the food is terribly bad... they offer an Italian cuisine, that apparently would be a nice option, but they don't have any idea on how to cook Italian: first day I took pasta, but half of the plate was full of oil, only half was pasta. The following day I gave it another chance, and took a risotto with mushrooms, unfortunately it that was absolutely impossible to be eaten: no salt at all, but instead it seemed to have sand from the mushrooms... very nasty. I told the staff to bring some salt, but they didn't even bother. Then I told them it was not good at all, but they didn't care about the feedback.

We stayed for two nights during the week with the aim of exploring the Thames path and surrounding area - ideal location for this and Richmond park. We stayed here as part of a half price package through a third party. I dont think I would choose to stay here and pay full price though. Rooms clean, nicely furnished, and bright with air-con, beds comfortable, - no problem with the room, a little on the small side but OK for London. The spa and pool was just down the corridor which was very useful. Breakfasts were OK, nothing special, you could get a similar breakfast at countless other hotels. The hotel itself is smart and clean, again no problems here.
Hotel staff service was OK, only really spoke to them at check-in and check-out. Spa staff friend helpful and chatty - much better.
One thing to note is that if you use the car park you will be charged five pound per day!
Overall - no problems, just a good all-round hotel, nothing exceptional

Room Tip: Ground floor overlooking garden.

Over priced and definitely not 4 star. Breakfast was cold and not what we ordered. It claims to have a pool and spa but you couldn't use the pool as it was full with women in wet suits with babies and I guess the big round bath tub qualifies as the spa.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

We arrived after a wedding nearby late at night. The six of us had to carry our own bags to the rooms. The member of staff at reception didn't welcome everyone in our group either.

I can't imagine worse service. Leaving a newly married couple to carry their own bags to the top floor... I presume they knew where the room was located and decided not to offer any help.

Other than the bad service during checkin, the rooms are nice, the bathroom spacious. After a good nights sleep (the alarm went off at 4am - I won't blame the hotel of course!) the breakfast was good, the service and reception staff were pleasant and more than happy to help.

It's a shame that one person can spoil an otherwise good experience. I won't suggest what should happen to the member of staff that couldn't be bothered to help but if you can't help customers take bags to their rooms - or even say hello! - Then how appropriate is it to be working in a hotel in the first place.

Night stayed 17th June.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights last winter for my sisters wedding. It's such a gorgeous little place with so much character.
if you're expecting a modern hotel then this isn't for you.

quick check in, found our room easily and it was a lovely room, probably the only 'modern' aspect of the hotel, the rooms have everything you need, comfy beds, tv, iron, tea and coffee facilities, bathrooms with a large bath and nice shower and very very clean, what more could you want?
There isn't much in the hotel other than rooms, a bar and a food area so definitely go into London and explore.
The breakfast is yummy, lots to choose from, drinks are good but expensive, you can put them on your room tab and pay before you leave.

if you're thinking of having a wedding reception here, do it! It's a lovely warm and characteristic hotel and we had the whole dining area and most of the hotel to ourselves with complimentary champagne :)

ignore the bad reviews, you can't please some people, there is nothing wrong with this hotel

Stayed at this lovely hotel again, after spending a very brief night there at Christmas 2011. The staff were very pleasant, attentive and personable.

We didn't have the biggest room by any mean, but everything was very comfortable, the A/C was great and that always means a lot on a British hotel.

I've now stayed at three hotels belonging to the Akkeron Group and always the staff are a treat to deal with.

The Richmond Gate is ideally situated, just a 40 minute trip into the City, whilst enjoying a lovely position right on a beautiful part of the Thames.

Will go again.
