Richmond Gate Hotel
Reviewed July 6, 2011

We have stayed here twice now and have been very pleased with both hotel and service.

We wanted somewhere we were able to drive to (on the way to somewhere else) and park so we could head into town, most recently to visit Taste of London. The hotel offers free parking for guests which is very handy indeed. Main line rail and tube is about a 10 min walk down the hill into Richmond.

Rooms are clean and nicely decorated. We had a standard room on both occassions and if I am being picky are a bit small, but they are fine and perfectly servicable. Nice tea and coffee tray with biscuits and plenty of toiletries.
Had breakfast included on one visit and that was very good, plenty of choice.

I booked both times via internet agent and got 2 very difference prices, so shop around. It seems very random as the first time we stayed was over Easter and was £40 cheaper than the end of June!
To sum up, nice hotel, perfect if you want to go into London and be able to leave the car somewhere.
Would stay again at the right price.

We stayed here with for two nights for a visit to Wimbledon for the tennis, and my wife and I will be returning very soon. We wanted an alternative to staying in the centre of London, and this place is perfect. Situated at the very top of Richmond Hill, right next to Richmond Park you are just a minute from the park gates and the deer wandering around. Walk a few minutes down the hill and you are in the centre of Richmond itself, really good shopping, eating and scenery by the river. The rooms (we stayed in 21, our in-laws stayed in 23 and that was just as nice) are really well appointed, boutique style and recently decorated - I have stayed in 5 star hotels with worse decor. The most remarkable thing was the bed - it was possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The bathroom was spacious and stylish, and overall there really wasn’t anything to fault. The restaurant was excellent, and breakfast (full English but also an excellent continental buffet) was superb. It is rare that I feel the need to be so complimentary about a place, but from the service, to the rooms and decor, I cannot find anything bad to say about this hotel, very romantic, stylish and a great alternative to staying in central London.

Room Tip: Superior room (21) superb - worth a few £s more

This hotel is excellent, the staff cannot do enough for you at any time of day or night. The pool facilities are very relaxing after the hussle and bustle of London. Food was great. Rooms were spotless as were the communal areas.
I would definately return to this hotel when back in the city.

First view of the hotel is impressive and the facilities and service were an equal match.

I appreciated the various indoor and outdoor spaces available, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings. The gardens on a beautiful sunny day were the perfect location to enjoy a glass of chilled wine. The bedroom was spacious, very clean and well equipped and the shower in the bathroom an extra luxury. I cannot fault the service received from all the staff and the breakfast offered a wide variety to cover all tastes, even the fussy Irish.

The hotel is ideally located to visit many interesting sites and I recommend taking the scenic route for the short walk into Richmond to explore this very charming town.

A very enjoyable trip and I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Good views from rooms, gardens or pretty street

Room OK but not particularly splendid. Did not have time to try spa. Security at reception poor with my registration form left on the counter to be read easily by others.

I recently returned to the Richmond Gate Hotel with my Mum for another long weekend. We love staying at this hotel, it's like home from home. The staff are always extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has bags of charm and character with a very homely feel. All of the different rooms we have stayed in have been of an excellent standard with all mod cons. Ten out of ten for breakfast and plenty to choose from.
The hotel is an excllent location with great free parking which is a bonus. Two minutes walk from the hotel you will find stunning views of the river thames and just down the hill are the lovely terraced gardens leading down to the river where you can jump on a river boat to Hampton Court.
While we were there we decided to take a shopping trip up to the West End and opted for public transport. Richmond Station is quick to get to and provides an excellent underground / overground rail link into central London. One final thing that is greast about this hotel is the leisure facilities, after a busy day of sighseeing and shopping we had a lovely time chilling in the jacuzzi and steam room.
We are already plannig a return visit..
