Description: Situated on the Kew Road, close to Richmond Station, another great restaurant in Thai square group which has been excitingly designed within the former Duke of York pub. Combining the best of contemporary design with authentic Thai artefacts we hope that we have created an ambiance that will enhance any occasion, from a simple lunch to an intimate dinner. Our Thai chefs and staff have only one aim, to delight all our guests with a genuine Thai culinary experience.

A slightly disappointing first visit to this chain of restaurants: overall the quality resembled a chain pub trying to pull off Thai cuisine at restaurant prices.

For the starter we had the sharing platter for two - a lot of chicken there and slightly bland. Then followed by pad thai (low on prawns and slightly overcooked noodles) and duck in tamarind sauce and coconut rice. Overall the standard was OK, though slightly underwhelming.

My friend ordered the Singapore Sling: a very pink, bubblegum confection which tasted more red bull than gin sling. He left most of it.

Service was friendly and quick to start off with, but faded as the post-rugby crowd started to arrive.

Try to avoid seats near the front - stating the obvious, but they get a lot of cold air from the outside ... though this one was more within our gift to change ...

The food was excellent, flavoursome, and plentiful. The service was slow but reactive when chased. Had a set menu which was delivered at the right pace and contained variety in terms of flavours, meats, and textures.

We went here for a friend's 21st birthday celebrations. A group of 8 went. We were there for 20 minutes before we were asked if we wanted drinks / to order. We ordered the same sharer platters for all of us. After waiting nearly 20 minutes, the first platters arrived, leaving 4 of us waiting for 25 minutes before ours arrived - at which point our friends had finished theirs. When it finally arrived, the food was nice but definitely not worth the wait. We had our mains which came out luke warm, again, all arriving at different times. The service was dreadful, the waiter was miserable and took the candle away when I had complimented the holder - he probably thought I was going to steal it or something. At the end of the evening, a £24 service charge was added to our bill - maybe this could be used to improve their customer service?

Despite the average, authentic thai food, we were made to feel very uncomfortable experience and would definitely not want to dine here again.

I would love to be writing a review of the food at Thai Square in Richmond but my wife and I gave up and left after waiting to be served our food for over 90 minutes after ordering. People at several other tables were equally left waiting to be served. Every time we asked we were told it was coming soon, but it never arrived. This restaurant was woefully under staffed but rather than reduce the number of diners, the restaurant was full - so the food must be good - and the staff clearly just couldn't cope. We'll not be going again.

4 of us went here for my friends birthday. We were there for over an hour and a half before we decided to walk out. It took 30 minutes to get a drink and that was only after one of us went up and asked to get service. We proceeded to order food and drink. In the next hour we were only served our drinks and a starter. In addition to this at least 1 other table had the same experience as us and asked for the bill for what they had had due to the extreme wait. Not log after this we did the same and as we walked out heard complaints from the few diners who were left. I would not and never will recommends this restaurant, my advice if you are thinking about going here is to find somewhere else.
