This is an old fashioned hotel that has a old seaside feel without losing the standards required for modern hotel. The rooms are quaint but have flatscreens TV's with digital TV, the bathroom was modernised and there was access to to WIFI throughout this large hotel. The restaurant and staff were fantastic and the Carvery was a real treat.
The breakfast was nice but as others have said it starts too late for business people who often have to leave before 7.30.
The hotel backs onto the seafront and the resort itself is similar to Blackpool in its setup but not in its style. WSM is cleaner and has much more style in my opinion.
Plenty of parking is available and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

I stayed here mid week for business. The staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. May I single out the receptionist lady with the big smile who found nothing to much trouble. She is an asset to your hotel. Breakfast starts a little late at 0730 for a businessman, but this is a minor problem as breakfast was excellent. The food in the evening was very good also, with good service!
I will be visiting Weston next year and yes, I will be staying again at the Royal Hotel.

Room Tip: Single room for a single traveller was more than adequate!

We travelled with a coach party, arrived told to get downstairs ASAP as waiting on us for service of dinner. Got to room left cases went straight down and diverted to bar as now waiting for whole party to come down then diverted others from coach party to dining room to be seated rest of us stuck in bar awaiting being told could now go through. Finally seated waited further 20 mins for starter delivered to random people round room no system server stated didn't know what type of soup it was and that it was only choice, main meal arrived again randomly delivered to random tables waited 15 mins for veg/potatoes to arrive again no choice some sort of meat and square of pastry. Had choice for dessert! strawberries and cream or strawberries and ice cream. Went to bed hungry and tired noisy outside slept finally. Breakfast next day cereal, toast and cooked breakfast which was bacon, sausage, beans and scrambled egg no question if this was what wanted just placed in front of you. Another of our party said she couldn't have pork so asked for no sausage or bacon but could she have an alternative next thing 2 fried eggs slammed down in front of her. Table of 6 people were delivered 6 halves of toast asked for some more toast server muttered under her breath then went and brought 4 halves back again which were slammed down on table.

We have recently eaten twice at the Royal hotel & on each occasion found the food excellent, the service wonderful and ambiance really good. The carvery is to be very much recommended, it is not always possible to keep up the standards, but you succeeded. Thank you very much!

I rarely write bad reviews and this isn't really going to be one, it just does fit into the category of 'poor'.

Most of the staff really couldn't be bothered, with the female bar staff spending more time texting and gossiping about one-another than serving, even on this relatively quite weekend, glasses were building up around the bar and on empty tables. The next morning the same was happening with breakfast glasses, some of which were still where they were left at lunch-time. Regardless of that, the drink selection is also quite poor and the bar looks a bit tired.
Having worked in a wedding venue hotel myself, I sympathise with the fact that noise was an issue until the early hours, with people walking around the corridors screaming and laughing and music playing downstairs. What I dont sympathise with is the staff attitude towards it. When asked how our night was, we honestly answered that it was a little noisy (we wasnt trying to make a point, just answering a question), to which the receptionist said she did close the venue door and walked away. Not sure what was supposed to be made of that, its just a bit rude.

Breakfast was good, but to pick holes, was a little small and lack-lustre and the staff seemed unbothered and warn out, and the meal was a little greasy.

Finally, i'll be fair, it was an autumn night and stormy, but the new windows in the rooms dont fit the frames correctly, so whistling was an issue all night.

Overall - avoid Saturdays, and go somewhere else for drinks and breakfast.

My husband and I were at Bristol for the weekend for my daughter's wedding and decided to spend a few days whilst we had the chance exploring Somerset. We looked around and checked sea views, parking and room rates and decided on the Royal Hotel which as it turned out was a very good decision. The hotel was slightly old fashioned looking in that it had a lovely sweeping staircase and patterned carpets and wallpapered rooms. It was clean and roomy and comfortable with wide corridors and a lift. There were 2 bars, a reading room, a beautiful large dining room looking out onto the road, a hairdressers and even and electric shoe polisher on our corridor which my husband took great delight in using! There was a large pay and display car park in the grounds and the room rate included parking-a bonus indeed. Breakfast was very varied and tasty and service both in the dining room and on reception were polite and helpful and friendly. The only down side to the hotel was that our room had a double bed and a single bed and the small wardrobe was tucked away at corner of the double bed next to the over large bedside cabinets with difficult limited access and only just room for two peoples clothes. The hotel was definitely not modern in appearance but was elegant and well cared for with a view of the sea from our window to die for and drinks and biscuits topped up every day . I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view as it is definitely worth it

This Edwardian period Hotel is not one to the taste of the young upwardly mobile who like a minimalist decor with no character whatsoever. However if you want a warm welcome and old fashioned hospitality with good service in a very central location then look no further.

My wife and I have stayed many times at The Royal, always book direct with them by the way and you will get good service and a good deal don't go through a booking agency.

We have just returned from three nights dinner bed and breakfast, you get the third night free and breakfast during October. The Dinner with waitress service in their lovely old dinning room is superb. we had the lamb chops, cooked to perfection. The breakfast is well cooked and presented too and will set you up for a day.

Everything is just handy as you walk out of the hotel shops or promenade, Knightstone with its marina lake, don't miss a walk there is not far away.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor (second floor) views are great front or back.
