The York Hotel
Reviewed March 10, 2014

We got to Weston Super Mare later than planned due to First Great Western giving us a poor train service, so we were already tired and extremely fed up. We then had 3 hours to kill because we couldn't check in until 3pm. As we walked into the hotel there were people drinking already (this was around 2pm on a Saturday). Walking into the actual reception area there were a few steps and the banister to hold on to had chipped white paint. In my opinion, the hotel manager cares more about the bar than the hotel as the reception area was in a strange location of the building. When we got in, they were able to look after our bags since we arrived earlier than 3pm, however they didn't even check if our room was ready. Later on when we came back, we were able to check into room 111. For some unknown reason we got removed from the ground floor without any say. On our walk to the room, we could clearly see the kitchen area. After a stair case we got to our room which was directly opposite another room. It took us around 5 minutes to open the door. Our room was basic with just a double bed, 1 beige and 1 red chair, a table, a kettle, TV, 2 lamps and another room for the basic bathroom which contained the toilet, a sink and a shower. There were hardly any items in the room. We already had to give a £10 deposit to get the remote for our TV which is beyond ridiculous. As it got later we ventured out to sightsee. The lift to take us downstairs was rattly and small. As we were walking down the seafront at around 7pm, we looked over at the hotel and there were a group of men getting rowdy at the bar area, one of them kicked a chair over. Thinking that they were just on a pub crawl, we went back to our room. Later on that night as we were trying to get some sleep after our stressful day, we noticed that the blinds didn't block out the light and we couldn't adjust the radiator. We had to open the windows because of the extreme heat. During the early hours of Sunday morning, we could hear rowdy people cheering and in another room near us we could hear a couple arguing. All of these things continued throughout the night. The noise of the drunk people in the restaurant/bar were clearly heard. With only a few hours sleep, me and my mother couldn't wait to leave. Overall our weekend was ruined. NEVER EVER visiting what you would call a "hotel" again.

Booked online en route from Birmingham on arrival we welcomed by great staff. Even though we booked a en-suite double we got a twin :/ had a fantastic platter for evening meal didn't go hungry portioning was huge! Room was fabulous clean & well presented! Great nights sleep! Would 100% stay again but for £60 a night would expect breakfast included.

First impression the outside needs a coat of paint, the menu board was so dirty you could not see through the glass, stairs had filth crusted in the corners, reception...there isn't one just a table with dead flowers. When we got the key we were told the room is downstairs in the basement, the carpet had stains and filth on every step, this was food on top of food as our room was by the kitchen, noisy and foul language heard from the staff, as for the room I wouldn't know where to start, stayed one night only @ £79 per night. Only the location is a plus for this poor hotel.

Nice hotel, excellent location and friendly hotel staff. Very good value for money compared to some of the other hotels in the area and we would stay here again. Decor lovely although could do with some maintenance for all the little things like bathroom fittings and shower needed fixing back on the wall and the ladies toilet downstairs could do with an update.

This hotel is situated right on the seafront, opposite the pier and next door to the Winter Gardens and only 5 minute walk from the main shopping centre. The décor is lovely with an open fire place and a 50" TV. The bar is very well stocked and reasonably priced so if it is wet outside you can sit in the comfortable leather seats and have a drink. The rooms are clean and the bed is very comfortable. The staff are friendly and always on hand to answer any question. The only criticism I've got is that is was a little cold in the rooms of a night. We didn't get to try the food but the menu is excellent. I would definitely book here again.
