“wonderful hotel for my disabled sister”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

I have just returned home after a 5 night stay at the Lauriston Hotel i took my disabled sister away as we had work going on at home and it wasn't suitable to keep her home.We enjoyed every minute of our stay we went half board and the meals were very good plenty to choose from, our room was a lovely size we had loads room in there for her wheelchair -largest room we have had in any hotel we have stayed in .They cater for people with impaired vision and the staff there are wonderful from the moment you enter the hotel nothing is to much trouble. The hotel is 1 minute from the promenade so lovely walks to be had there plus the shops are roughly 5 minutes away every thing was on the flat so it was no problem pushing my sister in her wheelchair, would not hesitate to take her here again .

Room Tip: we had room 22 which is at the back of the hotel so no sea view but it was a large twin room and a q...

When my wife and I go away it tends to be with our dog, so the first thing we look for is self-catering or a hotel that will accept our furry friend. We found the Lauriston Hotel online and booked it easily at a great rate with a sea view. Stayed over the Easter weekend and the Monday weather on the beach was perfect - English seaside holiday at its best. The fish and chip shop (Papa's) in the town a five-minute walk away is very good.
The facilities for dogs are unlike anything I have seen anywhere else, including a bowl and towels at the door, and a shower room out the back. The staff are friendly and we had breakfast which was okay, not brilliant but not too bad either.
All I would say for the benefit of other travellers is that it is a hotel run by a charity concerned with for the blind and visually impaired, and designed with that in mind. It does mean the clientele are being looked after to a certain extent - just being helped with things at breakfast time, etc. and if you are not used to it or expecting it, it can be a surprise. They could make this a little clearer on the hotel's website.
But we enjoyed out stay and would go back to Weston again, it has had a spruce up since I was last there 20 years ago. The pier is good fun for families and the beach is great as always.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view on an upper floor. There is a lift. We didn't notice a noise problem anywhere...

We booked this hotel for a last minute weekend by the seaside to blow the cobwebs away. It is in a perfect location and with parking and breakfast included its a bargain. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was lovely and my worries about doggy smells were completely unfounded. The bathroom was as big as the bedroom and the facilities were good. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced stay near the seafront who actively welcome dogs then this is for you.
The staff here are quite exceptional, they have all the standard hotel skills, but as this hotel caters for visually impaired people they have the additional caring skills that are often lacking in other places. Whilst walking a few miles from the hotel we came across a member of staff on her day off who was exercising the guide dog of a guest, says it all about the standard of staff. Yes, it's a little tired, but it is kept clean and tidy and certainly no whiff of wet dog anywhere.
We had a front room with a sea view, but that comes at the price of hearing the nearby Weatherspoons discharge at 'very late o'clock'. There are water bowls and a thin bed provided in each room for the hounds. also towels in the porch to dry them off before bringing them into the hotel, and even a dedicated shower - yes a shower and not a cold hose - at the rear to wash them off. It'd work on the kids too!
Dogs are welcome in the lounge but not the bar or restaurant unless they are guide dogs.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel, this was cooked to order and so arrived piping hot. The Thatched Restaurant next door gives you 10% off your total bill for staying at the Lauriston.
We'll go back to WSM for another break and will simply rebook this hotel.

Hotel is in a prime location near the seafront and has all the facilities for blind guests. The rooms are clean and adequate although the double beds are a bit small, causing a capsize or two during the night. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the bar was open as long as you want. Breakfast was ok.

This hotel is run primarily for blind people by "Action for Blind People" , but others are welcome to use it. Stayed with a group of sighted friends for 3 nights. The hotel is a little tired in the decor field, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and at £40.00 per night on a bank holiday weekend in a prime position in a holiday resort, it cant be beaten.
Breakfast is a basic quality, but adequate. Staff are amazingly friendly. Bar is open all night to guests if you wanted.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.
