“Great dog-friendly hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Only spent one night at the hotel, but would definitely stay again, and for longer. We got a very friendly and helpful welcome, as did our two dogs. I was a bit worried when the (very nice) chap on reception said our room was in the basement, but I needn't have. The room was huge - just as well we have a Great Dane and a Retriever - twin beds, writing desk, two-seater sofa, small TV, tea/coffee making things. It was one of the big bay window rooms at the front of the hotel looking out/up onto the car park, so it was fairly bright despite being downstairs. The bathroom was just as huge (big enough to swing a Great Dane!) - with its own kind of lobby area, leading up a couple of steps to the loo, bath with fairly powerful shower. Yes, the decor generally may be a little tired/dated, but the bedding and linen was spotless, as was the carpet on arrival - didn't spot a single dog hair or any stains, although our retriever did leave a few hairs, I have to admit!

The hotel is in a great location, directly on the seafront, and, as mentioned, has parking. We were lucky enough to get a space, but it might be difficult in the busier seasons. There's an NCP carpark a few yards away, and free street parking on the roads just back from the seafront if you don't mind a stroll to the hotel.

Breakfast was fine - plenty of cereals/juice/tea/coffee, plus cooked-to-order options. Full English wasn't great, but was ok (avoid the fried bread tho!) - certainly would'nt mark this place down solely because of that.

The hotel very obviously caters for guests with dogs, and in particular, guide dogs, so anyone who marks it down because they don't like seeing dog towels & bowls at the front door, or guiding hand rails around the walls, is, in my view, pretty (shall we say) 'undiverse' in their outlook. It's clear from the hotel website what services the hotel offers, so if you object to dogs - even in the shape of a GUIDE dog! - then stay somewhere else, and spare this great hotel the unfair bad reviews!

Stayed here last week feb 18 to 22nd first impressions were not to bad,Craig the receptionist could not have been more helpful really nice chap. The first room we were allocated was g4 bottom floor. The room had a strange odour so we tried opening windows etc to rid the smell , unfortunately this had no effect so we asked for a move which fair play we were duly given a different room upstairs no 10 much better a lot happier, the hotel itself is dated but not to bad nice fellow guests etc ,, ideal location by the sea front near all the amenities we enjoyed our break the only fault we found was the food at breakfast time' I know this sounds a little like a whinge but for an established hotel we found amazingly, they could not serve my wife a hard poached egg. After 3 days of the eggs coming to the table soft we complained the cook came to the serving door window to see where the complaint was coming from which annoyed us even more. In the end we give up and did not attend for breakfast on the final day so my wife had no food for the 3 attempts to get breakfast, upon checking out we explained about the lack of food in the mornings we didn't, even get an apology or any recompense which left a bad taste in the mouth, we would not advise you to eat there if you want something as straight forward as an hard poached egg

Many thanks for a wonderful stay last weekend. I had a twin room on the ground floor which was spacious and comfortable. On arrival I w met with a cheery face who provided all the information i needed for my stay. My only criticism would be that breakfast did not start until 0800 and I had to be at a meeting by 0830 each day. I will say in their favour a continental breakfast was offered in replacement and for it to be available before 0800. Spot on, thanks again.

We stayed here for one night on January 26th whilst visiting for a family birthday. The staff were very friendly & helpful, the rooms were clean & the beds comfy. The breakfast offers lots of choice & was also very nice. One slight gripe was the shower was only a dribble but we had a separate bath also in the bathroom. I never realised action for the blind ran hotels for partially sighted guests. What a great idea. Being a volunteer for Guide Dogs ourselves it was lovely to see guide dogs milling around too.

Would definitely stay here again when we come back down to see the family.

We just got back from staying at the Lauriston Hotel and we were happy with our stay. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. They were polite and always smiling. The hotel accomodates for the partially sighted/blind and so were very friendly towards dogs which was lucky as we were travelling with our small dog. The room was clean and a very good size which made a nice change. The hotel looked old fashioned which reminded us of a care home but had everything that was needed, restaurant, bar, lounge. location was perfect and was across the road from the beach. Would stay here again and the prices were very reasonable. There was available room service which came at an extra cost of £2 but we didnt use this. To say this hotel was so dog friendly it didnt smell "doggy" at all. My husband would have preferred a buffet stlye breakfast but he's a man and there always has to be something. overall it was a lovely B&B.

We have been staying at The Lauriston Hotel at least twice a year for the past five years or so for short breaks and have never had a problem there. The staff are friendly, the rooms are spacious and clean and breakfast is very good.
