“King Duncan's View...just as good”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

We spent a week last year in Macbeth's Retreat (see previous review.) I would not normally review a place on a second visit but this time we stayed as a 3 generation family group (including 3 under 4s ) at King Duncan's View and I felt I just had to add a comment about this larger property which is of the same exceptionally high standard. A week of fog and coolish drizzle meant we did not get out as much as we had hope but King Duncan's provided us with enough comfortable space for 6 adults, 2 toddlers and a baby. The beds are huge and comfortable, the living area well equipped and with great views (which we saw on our last day!) Alex and Pippa welcomed us like old friends...much appreciated. Oh...and if you find yourself here with bad weather and small children there is an excellent soft play area at Mary Coulter!

Thank you very much for your second review Maggie. It was lovely to see you both again and to meet the grandchildren! There are several good places to keep younger children amused in Deeside.

Where to start- we are a family of 4 (2 small boys) who moved to king Duncan's while looking for a house to buy....which turned into a search spanning months- This ultimately placed us in the enviable position of enjoying time in each of the cottages at Perkhill and really getting to know the local area. We have literally enjoyed sun, snow and rain and can say without hesitation that weather conditions will not matter when your holidaying here. The cottages are absolutely beautiful- spotlessly clean, always warm and large walls of glass lead to stunning views over the surrounding countryside both near and far. All luxuries you could possibly want can be found from log fires to power showers and the most comfortable beds ever slept in. It's very child friendly- numerous games and movies were left in each cottage and of course there's fields to ramble around in and a farm to visit. Also lots of castles, woods, soft play etc. the cherry on the cake here though are the owners- Alex & Pippa. They are so genuinely friendly and engaging and are happy to help, give advice, do tour guide around the farm or just have a chat. The cottages and their undeniable comfort are amazing but Alex and Pippa are the heart of the place & what makes it so special. It's with a heavy heart we're moving on but will definitely return in the future.

Fabulous accommodation, in a quiet location situated in wonderful scenery. My wife and I would recommend Macbeth's Retreat for people who love to unwind or go lovely woodland walks it's brilliant!
Pippa and Alex the owners are very friendly and helpful, and make you feel very welcome. Macbeth's Retreat has everything you could want or need in a holiday cottage, and we do have to say that Max the Pooch loved it too, all the new sniffs he had fantastic time and will be telling all his doggy friends can't wait for our next trip to Perkhill Holiday Cottages.

We returned to MacBeth's Retreat for the second year running and found it to be even better than last year.
The cottage is truly fantastic - ideally located, spacious, cosy and so well equipped.
Attention to detail is remarkable, and clearly no expense or effort was spared in choosing every little fixture, fitting and accessory.
The beds deserve a special mention. They are just out of this world, like floating on a cloud :)

Amazingly, when we did have an issue with the oven, it was replaced with a brand new one in two shakes of a lambs tail. Remarkable service.

Pippa and Alex are the most genuine, friendly and approachable hosts we have encountered in many years of self-catering.

If fate allows, we shall certainly be back next year to complete the hat trick. We are all looking forward to it with relish.

Mark, Hazel, Rowan & Lorne.

Cannot recommend King Duncans View too highly, so cosy, light and bright. Spacious and well designed. Views and local countryside amazing. Great for dog walking and cottage thoroughly enjoyed by our Cavalier King Charles. Owners very friendly and informative on local area. Information booklet in the cottage is superb. The beds are all so so comfy we wanted to bring them home.Showers / bath / and wet room all magic. Local village very friendly with the village shop stocking everything imaginable that you might need or not need on a break !

We stayed in Lady Macbeth's Rest as a family of three plus dog during the half-term break. We arrived in darkness after a long journey and were not disappointed when we found our accommodation. We had two very comfortable bedrooms situated at either end of the cottage with very comfortable beds and a kitchen diner and sitting area, with log burner, in the middle. All the fittings were good quality and there was also a spacious bathroom with separate toilet. The ceilings were high with lots of skylights - we loved the thickness of the walls with little windows in the kitchen and bedrooms. The there was also a grassed area outside with useful rotary dryer and fantastic views towards Clachnaben - we were lucky with having great weather too!

The cottage has great facilities and is in a very peaceful farm location just outside the village of Lumphanan and is not far from all the places of interest in Deeside.

We didn't want to leave but would love to return next year!

Room Tip: We stayed in Lady Macbeth's Rest which we can highly recommend for a small family

Firstly let me say that if you are considering booking this cottage it should be at the top of your list! We stayed for a week in September and really enjoyed it. Altogether the quality cannot be faulted, extremely high spec., very clean, warm, comfy and peaceful. We all LOVED the beds. It may be a while before we can make the journey up again but we would definitely like to stay in King Duncan's View. Thank you Alex and Pippa.
