“Ripped off”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

This hotel looked welcoming and stated non residents were "more than welcome" but, at £17.40 for 1 large red wine, one white wine spritzer and 1 beer, was a rip off. Not a nut, olive or crisp in sight. No wonder the place was deserted. We certainly won't be back.

Dear RockBopper Peng. Thank you so much for your review and comments you have posted. We are sorry that your visit to our establishment did not meet with your own personal expectations. It is important to note that we are not a public bar but a Hotel that welcomes non-residents. Our pricing reflects not just the products we stock but also the ambience, decor and service that one receives when visiting our establishment. We do feel that our bar pricing is of a fair nature for a hotel business and we are generous in our spirit measures of 35ml as standard.
Many thanks for the feedback.

My daughter chose the Tor-na-Coille hotel for her wedding ceremony & reception and the whole hotel was booked out for us and closed to the public. From the planning meetings to the day after, the management & staff were brilliant. Everything we asked for was done without a problem and staff were always available & looking to help throughout the event. The hotel has lots of character & is decorated with taste & originality. The rooms I saw (about 4 or 5) were of a high standard. Apart from a couple of exceptions, the food was rated very highly by all I spoke to. The two exceptions were dealt with by replacing choices & done professionally. I thoroughly recommend the Tor-na-Coille for a wedding event.

Room Tip: The older part of the hotel has grander rooms

Well set up and well designed hotel with a great atmosphere of calm and tranquility. Amazing value for money, with a dedicated staff who are both attentive and smart. Excellent breakfast, wonderfully well decorated and comfortable rooms. I took a party of four there for work, and will return for holiday later in year. Yep, it's THAT good.

Room Tip: All rooms excellent.

Was booked into this hotel by the company and OMG.. what a treat it was when I was shown my room.. huge four poster bed and period furniture plus 2 armchairs & a small table. seperate room bathroom. complimentary bathrobes. even doin the finger test proved flawless. Room 12 I was checked in to. Dinner was good as well, they prob go for quality rather then quantity with the food.. my dietary needs states 'plenty'. that is a very very minor point. Easy to get to & would recommend this hotel. price is on the top side of your usual hotels but the luxury within, certainly the room I had was well worth it on the top floor, penthouse suite i liked to call it ha ha.
Will def give it a go away from the company.. class

Room Tip: Ask for room 12.. even if u are not fit for stairs.. they have a lift.

On arrival we heard the magic words "we have given you a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite"!! Music to my ears. This is a lovely independent hotel which I can highly recommend. We had a beautiful room with huge bathroom with free-standing bath. The dinner was a delight - superb! White crab meat with apple jelly, brown meat in a little scotch egg. Rock turbot with lobster ravioli and delicious chocolate pudding treats. The chef provided tasty little amuse bouche - yum. Very reasonably priced for the quality of rooms and food. Did I mention breakfast ? - a delight - eggs benedict - delish. Very friendly capable staff. We will return. Give it a try!

What more could you ask for, Royal Deeside, a hotel set in lovely surroundings, a table in the large bay window overlooking the extensive grounds, a linen tablecloth set and with the great food and wonderful service what more could a person ask for.

It is always a joy to have a meal here wether afternoon tea or dinner, this restaurant has never let us down. Friday afternoon is always the time we set aside to be spoiled and this establishment know how to spoil you.

We have tried a number of other places in this area but we always go back to the best one, the Tor Na Coille.

Room Tip: The whole Hotel has been refurbished but they have retained the character of the original building.

I have the upmost pleasure in writing this review, we just celebrated our wedding at this picturesque gem in the heart of Royal Deeside on 18th, The purpose for this review today along with our extended thanks, is to advise anyone who is considering utilising this venue for their special day and weekend stay for them and their guests. We have had the absolute pleasure of dealing with Craig Walker the Assistant manager/ events coordinator, who along with restaurant supervisor Andrew & all the staff at the hotel & restaurant were nothing short of amazing in preparing us, assisting with every detail, i as a bride could burden them with. Despite the horrendous typical scottish weather we had for our day, not once did this detract from the service we recieved, what with having the most spectacular marquee set up on the lawn. Rushing through the torrential rain to serve our meal, which was absolutely spectacular! having visited the hotel periodically throughout the last 2 years of planning, my husband and i have managed to see the redecorating process throughout! The rooms have been upgraded to a very high standard blending traditional Scottish with a very modern flare. I cannot wait to go back!! Thank you so much for everything! Xxx
