“A wee gem on Royal Deeside”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

My friend and I went for lunch to the Banchory Lodge on a Saturday. We booked a table in the bar and were impressed with the menu. (I understand the hotel has recently changed hands and I am certain the new owners will be planning tp upgrade many of the oublic areas - they are tired and in need of refurbishment).

Despite the fact that there was a wedding on at the same time as we were having lunch and guests were arriving for pre wedding drinks the staff were very attentive and service was excellent. The dinner menu looks lovely with unusual dishes - must go back for dinner!

We bith had a glass of the house rose with our lunch - really delicious - French apparently,

Will definitely go back - will let you knowhow dinner goes!

We very much look forward to welcoming you back in the future

Delightful Scottish country hotel on the banks of the River Dee. We went for an evening meal. Winter, so no views, but really cosy fire in the bar for a pre-dinner drink. Attractive menu, I had pear, walnut and blue cheese salad, followed by slow cooked belly pork. Food well cooked, and well presented. Staff very attentive and friendly. Definitely will eat there again.

Recently had afternoon in the large dining room looking out of the large windows at what must be one of the best views and settings on Royal Deeside. Even though the weather outside was not to good the warmth of the welcome from the staff and a large fire more than made up for the dreich day outside. The afternoon tea was good. We will return on a day when the weather is better to enjoy the view and lovely surroundings sitting at on of the table placed around the grounds. \well worth a visit.

A imposing hotel set alongside the River Dee. The menu was inventive and offered a good range of choices (and a number of specials of the day were also offered)and the menus were considered in the Bar alongside the roaring fire. Having ordered we were shown to the dining room with our drinks being taken to the table. The service was discreet and very good and the food was really nice and pleased everybody. They also appear to do bar meals at lunch and dinner and offer a good selection of mid-day selections. I will without doubt return and commend the Banchory Lodge for a quality product at a reasonable price. Estimated price range 3 courses drinks and bottle of wine between 4 at around £40 per head.

Booked the Romantic Package, to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which included overnight stay, dinner, bed and breakfast and a bottle of fizzy stuff in our room. This was our first stay at this hotel and we loved it. We got the room that my wife had seen photographs of on the hotel website and this got our stay off to a great start. The hotel is old and in some places is showing its age but this all adds to the charm of the place. The restaurant and lounge were both fully booked for dinner which was a good sign and both our meals were lovely and the service was excellent, by the young waiting staff.
The hotel is in a lovely setting on the banks of the River Dee and ideal for a stroll along the river bank. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and we will certainly be planning a return trip in the near future.

Banchory Lodge.

2nd. visit for an evening meal (so I’m told!) A cold, snowy night in Jan. 2013. There were 5 of us, all used to fine dining. The entrance was welcoming, as was the real log fire in the bar. Only two other gentlemen were having a drink at the bar. Menu’s were thoroughly viewed and some unusual dishes chosen. It wasn’t long before we were summoned to the large and near empty restaurant. Only about eight others were dining whilst we were there.
After a further wait, which would have been better spent in the bar, our starters arrived. Pretty good they were, too! Prices from £4.50 to £7.50. (see photo’s) After a sensible interval, the mains arrived. These were of sensible size and the plates were warm. These too were good - but beware - no veg. dish as such, just served exactly as per menu. Additional side dishes should be considered to share, if you are anything other than a small/medium portion eater. This was not suggested at the ordering stage.
Main courses £8.95 to £18.95. Sides £3. Desserts £6. Service was professional but friendly. Tables nicely set and correct.
Polite interchanges with other guests were welcome and helped along by a short ‘tinkle of the ivories’ as one of our party played the piano for a few minutes. Always an ‘ice-breaker!’ Outside it continued to snow and all too soon, it was time to carefully navigate our way back to Stonehaven. All in all, an enjoyable evening.

As a regular client I recommend the hotel & the restaurant due to the fact I have found the level of service to be higher than that of hotels that service the requirements of the oil & gas industry in the Dyce area. The staff are very welcoming without being obtrusive, the rooms are lovely, the food fantastic & the view is breathtaking. As somebody that works for the oil & gas industry & understands quality, health & safety & luxury is important. I recommend the Banchory lodge for lodging, meetings & corporate events.
