Owner description: This 19th-century high-Victorian country house is one of the most fascinating in England. Colourful gardens, riverside walks and family friendly cycle trails.

The gardens are well-kept with huge trees being pruned using a crane. Inside many volunteer guides, some in costume, encouraging children. A gentleman playing the grand piano invited a child to play with him. Pleasant tea rooms with food and drink.

As trust member we visit lots of gardens and houses. Lanhydrock was beautiful and the gardens well kept. The woodland was lovely but not well signposted down at the bottom. The footpaths weren't easy to follow to do a circular walk. Inside the house was lovely but the staff weren't forthcoming with information to make the experience more enjoyable. Some sat reading a paper and didn't acknowledge people entering. Usually trust staff are really helpful and enjoy talking about the property. The cafe prices were reasonable and lots of seating available. Toilets ok but not the cleanest.
Would like to visit again in a different season to see more colour in the gardens .

There is so much to see in the House that we had to return a second time last week, while in the area. The 50 rooms reflect a family home of a bygone age, retaining an amazing collection of family possessions. The story is fascinating and the guides in period costume add a nice touch. The kitchen is intriguing, but the final room with its unique plaster ceiling is a masterpiece. We enjoyed refreshing meals in the restaurant which was busy but with good service.

We have been to many National Trust properties and indeed volunteer at one of the largest ones but Lanhydrock is probably the best we have ever encountered. The staff, both paid and unpaid, are universally pleasant and the room guides will enlighten you, but only if required and not in any pushy way. The house itself has a huge number of rooms to look at and the grounds are extensive and beautifully maintained. Venturing beyond the immediate confines of the property you can enjoy wonderful walks particularly along the River Fowey. Cannot be faulted.
