Called in whilst staying at Stanegate cottage, food very good, good portion size and quality. The staff and locals were very friendly and gave information on the local area. The pub, the tea room opposite and the hostel are owned by the same people. They are the only watering holes on the old Roman road, west from Housegates fort - open for breakfast onwards - use them or loose them!

We ate at the Greenhead Hotel, several times whilst staying in the area. The food was good value and plentiful. The staff were friendly and with the open fire burning it was always welcoming. Would highly recommend The Greenhead Hotel.

We visited Greenhead, staying at Stanegate Cottage (see my review on trip advisor) We visited the Greenhead Hotel for dinner on a number of occasions and each time the meals were delicious and great value as we could hardly manage to finish them. The service is good and staff are friendly. The meals we had were steak and ale pie, chicken and leek pie, scampi, trout, steak, fish and chips. All were to be recommended. Washed down with a beer or some pear cider made for a delightful meal. - our compliments to the chef! The pub is warm and cosy on a cold winter's night. We visited two years ago and the food was the same - just delicious!

Room Tip: We didn't stay but Greenhead is a small village so there wouldn't be any problems with traffic noise.

I visit the Greenhead Hotel for dinner quite a lot. The reason being that it is consistently serves great traditional pub food every time at reasonable prices.

The food served is always tasty and the portions are more than generous. Steak and ale pie being my absolute favourite - I love this as it is packed and I mean packed with hearty chunks of beef (which is a rarity)!

It also serves lovely and tasty handmade chips and none of those frozen sorts which are cheap and horrible!

They source their meat locally which I think is great.

Greenhead hotel also serve a range of good local beers and they have an amazin huge roaring fire in the colder months.

The staff there are always very welcoming and approachable. They take time to chat and if provide guidance on the local beers and ales they serve.

Well worth a visit if you are looking for a hearty lunch or dinner. It's very popular with walkers especially.

We visited with our 3 children after a long days walk. The staff were so welcoming and the atmosphere very cosy with a roaring fire. Great hearty food and especially delicious deserts. Thoroughly recommend this friendly pub.
