A real gem in the country. The wife and I fancied a break and this is just what we needed. A great location for walking for all levels. The food was amazing, the lamb shoulder is a must. the accommodation is great. No complaints from us at all..........

The Stanley Arms is well located for walkers contemplating the Peak District, especially as it is right on the doorstep of Macclesfield forest. We stayed 2 nights and the service was friendly but the menu limited and food ordinary.

My girlfriend and I planned on spending some of our Easter break taking in some walks in the Peak District and if the road took us to a nice pub and B&B all the better.
We saw signs for this and couldn't resist taking a look. We were very happy that we did.
Taking in a pint and looking at the menu, we enquired for any available rooms that night. For an Easter weekend we were surprised that there were 3 of the 7 rooms available. We were shown all 3 by a member of the bar staff and we immediately knew what we wanted, the Clough room. We can see why this is one of the Stanley Arms' prime rooms. A lot of thought and attention has gone into the barn conversion for this luxury accomodation and its just perfect. The complimentary sherry and chocs were a nice touch too.
Now, back to the pub, Adrian and Carolyn were really friendly and so too the rest of the bar staff. All very friendly, it wasn't just the open fires that made the pub feel cosy, it was the welcoming attitude of everyone who works there.
We had dinner (spur of the moment) that night too. I had a sirloin and it was absolutely gorgeous. Home made cooking makes such a difference. We're coming back for May bank holiday having booked one of the rooms already and will try the Lamb as well as the sticky toffee pud and choc fudge cake !

We arrived 2 hours earlier than expected but we were allowed to check in early. The room was warm and welcoming with a spectacular view. The room was clean with great shower, the extras of sherry, toiletries etc were lovely. The bar area was lovely with the open fires and the food delicious. We left with no reason to complain and many to recommend to friends.
I must mention, very good value.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2009

We needed a short relaxing break and have spent 2 nights in the Clough room at the Stanley Arms, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was spacious, cosy and warm, extremely well kitted out (including bathrobes, sherry and chocolates), peaceful and quiet and with lovely countryside views. The food in the pub (which is a separate building only yards away) is really good, very well priced and served by very friendly staff. The bar is small with a real fire, everyone is chatty and we felt really welcome. Surrounded by glorious open countryside, the Stanley Arms is not difficult to find, and well worth visiting. We'd recommend it to anyone.
