Description: Phone number is: 01625 611103 A bistro (small, inexpensive restaurant) that serves a small range of tasty starters/mains/desserts. We had the lunch menu which offered generous sized main dishes that were very tasty - for an astonishing £4.50. They also have a specials board and it was from this that my wife had mussels and chips. Friendly staff, great food, well positioned in the town and lovely clean washrooms! We've been before and will definitely go again. Finally, this place has owners that can make it work - well done to them!

“Lovely little restaurant”

Great little restaurant right in town, quite small but comfortable enough. Food was really tasty, nicely presented and good portions for a decent price. Very friendly staff. Will definitely be going again.

“Fantastic !!! Not to be missed!”

Went to lunch today, great menu, excellent value!
Food was lovely, yes the bistro was full, yes people enjoyed their food and chatted over drinks, the time to worry is when a place is half empty and the customers sit in silence!
Worth a few more visits!

“A little gem”

Once more, we have had a wonderful meal at Chestergate Bistro. We were early, so we were also offered the Early Bird menu. Choosing from that menu made no difference to the quality of the food and the way it is served. It's a charming place that we will be going back to soon.
Check out their inexpensive lunch menu when you take a break from Saturday shopping; we enjoyed that immensely too.

“Oh dear, failed to live up to it's reputation”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

We visited the Chestergate Bistro with friends, they have been many times and really rated it, so we were looking forward to seeing for ourselves. We arrived at 8.30pm and the place was quite full. It is only small, the first thing that struck me was the incredible noise level. It was like walking into a wall of noise, caused simply by the diners. We were taken to a table at the higher level near to the kitchen. It seems that most like to be on the higher level and not by the window and door. Within minutes two things became clear. The table was way too small for four people to comfortably dine at. Before any drinks were brought there was little room available and it was obvious that it was going to be a struggle to place things and eat without knocking something over. The second thing was that even though you were sitting within a few feet of each other, you simply could not hear anything that was being said, so normal conversation was out of the question. We then waited and waited and waited until eventually a waiter came to take our drinks order. As predicted upon their arrival there was significant shuffling to be done to get them onto the table. A chess master would have useful to assist us. We then waited and waited and waited for someone to take our order. Eventually it was decided that a table move was required or we would have suffered industrial deafness and sore throats trying to compete with a table of eight next to us who had considerably louder voices than we could muster. So to a new and slightly quieter and larger table, much to the consternation of another client who had also got his eyes on this prize. Sadly the service did not accelerate with the move and again we waited an eternity to place our order. This eventually happened an hour after we had got there and one bottle of wine already gone. The food when it arrived was very good, well presented and delicious. The choice of menu was restricted but good enough to ensure a variety of options and reassured you that the food was a priority here and not compromising choice over quality. After the starters came another even longer wait for the main course. This eventually arrived at 10.20pm, nearly two hours after our arrival, I am sorry but this is simply too long and is not acceptable. I don't know if there was a problem the night we visited, no apologies or reasons were offered. It appears to be very popular and I can see that on another occasion we could have been very pleased, but like the disgruntled gent who ended up having the table that we vacated, we were not at all impressed. I also noted that they also moved from the dreaded small table by the kitchen, you have been warned.
