“old bangor abbey”

very interesting and ancient part of Bangor. We spoke with the minister for about 20 minutes and he was very friendly and knowledgable about the history of the Abbey back in ancient times. He was even able to tell us that many people in the surrounding area and streets have found graves in their back yards, as the town grew and shops and houses were built over the original burial places, long forgotten!
would definitely recommend a visit, especially on a Sunday afternoon when the minister is there to tell you all the history and show you around the Abbey.

Reviewed August 22, 2013

We visited the abbey when there happened to be some volunteers on site. They were able to give us information about the history and religious significance of the abbey. Very Interesting!

Beautiful old Church and steeped in history, we did not do a tour but had a walk around inside there is plenty of information available and web site is very informative, also joined a Grave Yard Tour and it was very interesting. If in Bangor worth a visit.

“A WARM FRIENDLY CHURCH”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

The minister was friendly this is an old style church and you could imagine the monks going about their daily business in bygone years, the sermon even thou I am not Church of Ireland was not to preachy like some ministers the atmosphere is very welcoming as is the historical artefacts as you enter thru the main doors, well worth a visit.

“Ancient history brought to life”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

Very interesting visit to the Abbey if you go during the summer on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays between 2pm and 4pm, as there is a guide to tell you all about the history of the Bangor Saints.
