4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

we went to bangor for the weekend to visit friends and they booked the hotel for us so we didn't know what to expect. we couldn't have picked one better, it was just right for us. cleanliness, service, staff, location, price, just perfect. we were bed /breakfast for 2 nights. great stay & if I am ever back i would definitely stay here again.

As above, my girlfriend and myself stayed here for our anniversary. We were greeted by a lovely lady at reception and were made feel right at home. We were given a key to the room which I thought was unusual these days as usually you are given cards in other hotels. We had to leave the key at reception whenever we left. I usually don't like doing this but I never felt uneasy with leaving it there with all of our things on the room. The room itself was quite nice but could do with a bit of an update as it was a little old fashioned. We had a sea view which was great so I'd definitely recommend asking for a room with one. Our room was separated with the room next door by a door and the guy next door could clearly be heard speaking in the phone which was slightly off putting when trying to relax. Breakfast was nice and the staff were very accommodating with ordering specific things that were not on the set menu. We didn't have to pay for parking as the parking outside the hotel is free but keep in Ming we stayed mid week so it wasn't busy but I'd say if we had stayed at the weekend it would have been a different story. There is a car park directly across the road that you have to pay for. All in all I'd recommend the hotel as the staff are so helpful and friend but I'd definitely like to see it receive a little update when I return in the future.

Thanks Craig Turpin, for posting your feedback on your recent anniversary stay at the Hotel. Your comments re the fabric and furnishings of the bedroom have been duly noted. We are sorry that you experienced some adverse noise from the adjoining room. The view from the seaview rooms is indeed hard to beat. Parking at the Hotel is very accessable, there is free to park bays at the front of the Hotel as is the guest car- parking at the rear of the Hotel. Look forward to wecoming you back to the Hotel in the near future.

We booked the room direct from their website, £130 for dinner bed and breakfast on a satirday night, and paid £10 extra for an executive room with a seaview.

Firstly the room was great, and enormouse bed (which i think was two single beds joined together with a topper mattress), was very comfortable so very happy with that.
Got a lovely view of Bangor harbour, which even looked lovely in the SNOW!! yes no joke, snow in March!

We had a big TV, and a table and chairs, all the usual hotel room facilities, tea coffee etc.
The room was clean and tidy, no problems at all.

The bath was a bit delipatidated, slight rust on the wall from some metal object that was broken, but overall, again very clean, and adequate.

We also used the leaisure facilites which had pros and cons:
Pros:
- heated flooring in the changing room
- very friendly and helpful staff
- showers where nice and warm and great
- jacuzzi was big and lovely and warm
- steam room was nice

Cons:
- No lockers in the changing rooms
- the shower beside the jacuzzi and steam room was broken and looked like it was half broken and very messy.
- the heated swimming pool beds bit wasnt working

Food wise, the restaurant itself is nice, but the food wasnt fantastic, it was your basic hotel food, meat, potatoes, gravy sort of thing. I had had pate for starters but they gave a large chunk of tasteless pate with only one small bit of toast. I had pork for main, which again the meat wasnt great, and they just diguised the taste was a large portion of gravy. For dessert I had ordered cheesecake, which came as a glass with a little bit of biscuit and basically a load of cream?!?! not really cheesecake as we know it, and very sickly taste.

Please be aware there is a nightclub on at this hotel on saturday nights, so it is generally quite noise, but we didnt mind this.

Also overall the staff were really really friendly, every member we spoke to was lovely and very helpful, so top marks for that!

It really was just the food in the restaurant that let this place down. We would consider staying again but we would eat elsewhere.

On first writing this review, I did choose a rating of 3, but have changed it to four, because we found the rooms and staff to be great and they defintely deserve that four.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview, it has a lovely view of Bangor Harbour!

Stayed in Marine Court on Sat 9th March. It was a Treat Ticket which meant we got the deal at a cheaper price but that made no difference. All of the staff were welcoming and more than helpful. There was a good feel about the place. We had dinner in the restaurant where singing and piano playing added to the atmosphere. The room was very spacious and spotless. I would certainly recommend this hotel highly especially the staff. I shall return.

Thanks willie56 for recording your helpful comments on Trip. Delighted you enjoyed the Treat Ticket experience which has proved to be a very successful promotion for the hotel. We have endeavoured to enhance the guest experience by live music each week-end in our restaurant. It has indeed created a warm ambience for our Diners. Your encouragement re the high standard of Housekeeping has been passed on to the team. Your recommendation is valued and we will extend a warm welcome on your return.

I have encouraged booking this restaurant for the last 2 work Christmas dinners and they have been good. I bought a groupon deal for a steak dinner for 2 with wine on recommendation from a friend but we were by disappointed. The food wasn't cold enough to send back but not really hot enough. There was a definite "encouragement" to purchase additional starters and sides (no pressure to be fair though.) I wasn't impressed the sauce (which usually accompanies this dish at no extra charge) was a side order at £1.95 and the portion size wasn't generous. The vegetable platter at £3+ had Brussels sprouts!!!! (maybe they recognised me from my Christmas bookings) and the veg looked very limp and again portion size was " frugal". The wine was served in tiny glasses (only evident in the restaurant with the groupon diners so a little obvious!)
Overall......no more groupons for here and I'm not tempted back.

Thanks the2happywander... for taking the time to record your Groupon experience. It is disappointing to learn that the recommendation from a friend did not live up to your expectation. I am somewhat bewildered by your comments, had some of them been brought to the servers attention I am sure they could have been rectified at the time. Groupon actively encourage the Restaurant to upsell. The Groupon promotion has been hugely successful and has generated many repeat Diners. As you will appreciate at £23.20 per couple it represents terrific value. However we are sorry that you did not enjoy the experience. Perhaps you will accord us a further opportunity to make ammends.
