Stayed at Hargreaves House from Monday 26th until Friday 30th September 2011. Pauline, the lady of the house can not do enough for you, arranging taxi's, telling you where to go to eat, suggesting attractions etc. The rooms are clean and tidy and the breakfast is great. Very laid back and relaxting. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Bangor then this is the place

Room Tip: Just far enough from the town centre to ensure you have a quite nights sleep. Only one room with a...

We actually felt like we knew Pauline, our hostess, before we even met her because of her detailed emails as she helped us plan our time in the Belfast area, including getting discounts on attractions for us. Thus, it was a treat to get out of our rental car and walk up to the door where we were greeted like treasured friends instead of just paying guests. Throughout our stay, this relationship continued as she and Ambrose joined us in the evenings at our invitation for a drink and a lot of sharing about our home countries. But this wasn't all Hargreaves House had to offer. From the spacious, beautiful bedroom to the well-equiped bathroom to the elegant sitting room, this lovely old home welcomed us in every way. The view out the front window was of Belfast Lough, and a beautiful walkway enticed us for morning strolls alongside the water. Breakfast included a couple of special treats: the biggest, juciest blackberries we have ever eaten and brown bread made with whiskey that was to die for. Speaking of whiskey, Pauline saw that my husband had some Bushmills after our trip to the Antrim Coast and she insisted that he use only fine Irish crystal to drink it from, fetching him a cut-glass tumbler every time that bottle came out. She also handled a conflict with our car rental company that was resolved in our favor after she took it on, and escorted us out of town in her own little car to point out the way when we left for our daily excursions. Hargreaves House was beautiful, but it was Pauline and Ambrose that made it one of our very favorite stays ever! We miss you two - hope you come to visit us!

As others have said - both Pauline & Ambrose make you feel at home. They go out of their way even on the littlest details - washing your clothes, even! The location is superb with easy access to Belfast. The large double we stayed is was indeed refreshingly large, tastefully decorated, even with fresh flowers & it was the biggest bathroom as well. All in all it was the best B&B that we stayed in during our 2 week trip to both Ireland & Northern Ireland.

We stayed at Hargreaves recently on a stop in Northern Ireland on a trip we took with my sister and her husband across the UK. Pauline was a huge help from the get go when I first contacted her by email. She had very helpful suggestions for itinerary and tours. We arrived with an issue we had with a rental car that even our travel agent who booked it couldn't resolve. Pauline took it upon herself on our behalf and solved the problem in no time. Our stay was comfortable, charming and fun. My sister and her husband had an upstairs room which was fabulous. They paid just a little bit more to have the big bathroom all to themselves. Ours was on the main floor and was somewhat small, but well appointed. The shower/bathroom was very small. Still, it was a very comfortable stay and Pauline and Ambrose were delightful hosts. The view from the dining were is fantastic. Pauline saw to our every need. I highly recommend staying at Hargreaves House.

Room Tip: book the upstairs bedroom if possible

My husband and I had a wonderful time. Pauline helped to arrange a scrumptious 30th anniversary meal for us at The Boat House in Bangor. AND she had an anniversary card and flowers waiting in our room when we arrived! Pauline arranged our tickets for a marvelous Belfast tour (with a very fun commentator.) The Hargreaves House location provided a great front seat for the Bangor Sea Festival. Ambrose and Pauline were full of questions and lively conversation to help us feel right at home. We even put a 'spot' on our hometown on the dining room USA map. This is a warm, friendly stop on anyone's holiday of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland.
