“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

Food was of a very high standard, lovely amuse bouches, sorbet between courses and the chef came out to ask if we enjoyed meal. We did! The service was a wee bit lacking, lovely boys but we could see our wine sitting on the bar at arms length distance and it took till nearly end of our starter for them to bring it over (prompted by our asking). I told my husband just to get it himself but we had no bottle opener!! Anyway this was a minor issue and the food more than made up for the blip.
Highly recommended.

“First class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

Really can't understand the last review!!Eat on the green was absolutely first class from the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left . Food was fresh local and truely brilliant . Service couldn't have been better and the waiters helped explain everything that was asked of them . Been 2 years since our last visit but will definitely be back soon .

“Maybe the chef was off that day - distinctly average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

I'd heard good things so made the trek from Aberdeen for lunch - as others have said, it's not that easy to find, even with an RAC route planner map printed out. Pretty village green and attractive buildings.Rather amateurish ambient music - according to a message in the loo, the CD was on sale and some of the money was to go to charity, but this didn't make me enjoy it any more! Food was rather average, and service was a bit hit and miss. Had to ask for bread - which was fresh but doughy and could have done with longer in the oven. Nice "amuse-bouche"s but some turned out to be previews of the starters (beetroot; gravad lax) - maybe this was because we'd flagged dietary issues, and so maybe the standard nibbles were unsuitable, but still a bit odd to have the same thing for nibble and then starter. Mains were OK but a bit heavy - no lightness of touch or creativity on display. We weren't asked how we wanted meat cooked and it arrived rather overdone. We skipped the puddings. Coffee came with tablet and a small square of flapjack. I gather that if the proprietor/chef is in the building, he'll come round and ask how you enjoyed things. Given he didn't do so, we were pretty sure someone else was doing the cooking. If you plan to make a special trip, maybe it's worth checking in advance that Mr Wilson will be there when you book.

“Excellent Food & Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

Both food and service were excellent, I asked for a Yorkshire pudding with my pork Sunday lunch and one promptly arrived. The setting is lovely and the building very quaint. Great choice for a quiet, relaxing meal. We went for a friends birthday and she was very impressed with the Happy Birthday plate she received. I would have liked some treats / chocolates on it myself but she was thrilled.
