“Lovely quiet location, great staff and excellent food!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

My brother got married here recently and I also attended another wedding here the previous year. This year we stayed over so that we didnt have to get taxis late at night and so we could all eat breakfast together in the morning.

The hotel is set out of the way of everything around it, beautifully quiet with nice grounds and its a very attractive building. Good if your at a wedding or looking to escape but not if you want to be amongst local amenities. There is nothing on site other than a restaurant and bar.

The downstairs rooms appear to have had some redecoration in the last year and are now much more appealing and modern. The upstairs and bedrooms could do with some updating. We stayed in a 'superior room' it was large and clean with a good size bathroom and powerful shower but there was a crazy mix of carpet, curtains, wall paper and bed linen which are all patterned and all clash. There is nothing wrong with this other than it made the room feel outdated and a bit disappointing, also the TV was tiny and miles from the bed, but there was a sofa you could watch it from. Others staying in our party also noted that the rooms would benefit hugely from new carpets and a bit of toning down, it would give the rooms a much more luxurious feel.

I have eaten here on a few occasions, both at weddings and for Sunday dinner and have found the food to be very tasty, no complaints there.

The staff were fantastic: friendly, efficient and discreet.

All in all a lovely venue for a wedding or a quiet get away.

Stayed here for 1 night, sat 24 August as part of a wedding party. The ceremony was held here as well as the reception and I was very impressed. The bride tells me that the staff were very attentive to her needs throughout the day.
The hotel grounds are beautiful and I look forward to seeing the photographs.
Room was spacious with a decent sized bathroom, all very clean and welcoming.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was of a good standard. Help yourself to tea, coffee, juice and cereal and then order cooked items from a selection on the menu.
Great value for £89 (breakfast included). Wish that we could have stayed longer...will definitely be returning and would consider this as a venue for my own wedding!

We stayed in Hardwicke Hall with friends whilst attending a birthday party as it was the nearest hotel to the venue. It's a lovely building with friendly staff, big rooms and it serves an excellent cooked breakfast. The decor is a bit old fashioned but its great value for money and we would recommend it. There are a lot of stairs as the building is rambling - ask for a room near reception if you have trouble walking.

Stayed here for a couple of days to go to the cricket in Durham. Lovely old country house with creaky floorboards. Nice room. Staff all friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel one evening and the food was excellent. I would agree with other reviews that the only minor criticism I can offer is that the shower pressure was weak but that aside, highly recommended

This hotel is has beautiful gardens. The food is excellent and the rooms spacious. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was huge. Staff could not have been more helpful. We enjoyed the cocktail bar. It was a pleasure to be able to sit outside in attractive surroundings. We will certainly return.
