“Softest Bed Ever”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Stayed here when a came to get tattooed (by the excellent Alex Williamson at Apostle). Arrived quite late by train and i was soon in the room as its a short walk from the station. And what a room! And at such a cheap price too. The bed was uber comfy, to soft for me if im honest, wow proper sank into it.

The free breakfast was a bit naff as the kitchen was having a refit and all they could offer was toast and cereal. Its a shame nobody said anything when booking or when i arrived, i could have saved myself the journey upstairs, tho I would have still booked if id have known.

Stayed for 2 nights for business. The breakfast was very nice and the room was ok but a bit tired. Be warned you sign a disclaimer to make you aware of the extreme noise at the weekend due to the hotels night club. Free parking is good feature. Good indian and italian restaurant nearby.

We needed a hotel at short notice to attend a family bereavement and found their booking system to be very efficient and the website to be accurate.
You are warned that the hotel doubles as a nightclub at weekends. We booked in on a Sunday night, no nightclub but there was a party in the function room, which is on the top floor. This finished, as promised, dead on 11-30pm, although the staff then had to make the area fit for breakfast so it was well past midnight before calm descended.
The rooms are fine, very clean and functional although the TV was very small.

The lift is also used by clubbers, although they can't access the room corridors. The actual lift smelled strongly of Jeyes fluid, so best not think about the reasons for this.

You are in the middle of Hartlepool so at turning out time, even on a Sunday night, is a lively event.

We had the breakfast room to ourselves and we were happy with the meal and the spectacular roof top views.

First time visited Hartlepool. it was friends` engagement party on a Saturday evening.

Excellent Location, it is literally 5 minutes walking distance to the railway station. Just across the street. But you do not hear the trains from your rooms.

The party was held on the roof top banquet room, a beautiful room with full glass windows on 3 sides.

I got the executive suite on the corner. Beautiful with 2 sides of glass windows, and very good size of bathroom, including a corner bath.
room was spacious and bright. High ceiling too.

room and bathroom is clean.

the room provides :
tea and coffee with clean electric kettle
biscuits
iron
ironing board
additional blankets and pillows.
and bath amenities in the bathroom.
towels are clean, white and nice.

Breakfast : in the roof top room, so one can enjoy the view whilst having breakfast. The waiters will offer you english breakfast and you can chose your eggs and toast. There is a buffet in the corner for cold breakfast, coffee and various tea, yoghurt and juices.

the room was quite cold as we checked in, but the boiler works perfectly, one can get the room in cosy temperature within minutes.

The hotel provides free parking spot in the back card. but it is not secured at all. Some drunk youngs (my guest only) had stick a spike on our car´s tyre. And there were lots of broken glass and nails around the parking spot.

The Hotel has a night club on the underground.
Positive side : if you like to have a dance or two, a club in the same hotel where you stay is very handy.
Dance, get drunk.. and if you decide to leave, you will be in your room within 5 minutes.
Negative side :
it leads of lots of drunks people around the street after midnight. And as the street is not busy with car, the drunks just walk in the middle of the street and shout to each other or get sick and need an ambulance.
I woke up at 4 am that night and watched a young lady got sick and argued with taxi driver :).

I can´t say this will happen on week days, so it is possible that one gets much better sleep on work days.

The bar at the hotel is small and not too alluring to sit in for hours, but there is a good wetherspoon bar nearby. (the Ward Jackson, just google). only 5 minutes walking distance. Cosy and good price.

if I ever visit Hartlepool again, i probably stay in Hillcarter Hotel. :)

Room Tip: try to get the executive room. it´s only 16 to 20 pounds more than double room but twice as big and...

This is not an easy hotel to find, despite being a large imposing building in Hartlepool high street. The room punched way above its price, even in November. Beautifuly decorated with good quality dark wood furniture and well finished bathroom. The bar area is huge and very modern, but without any decent ale, or 'handpull' as it is known in this area!

Room Tip: Most rooms face the high street or an adjacent street. Room 24 has great views up the high street to...

Have just returned from 3 week stay at Hillcarter. Excellent hotel, clean with brilliant staff. Couple of functions over the weeks but never really bothered by noise. Breakfast great, bar prices more than reasonable.

Room Tip: 8 excellent double, 3 double with single and 16 lads pad! Do not expect a good view from any of them...
