“The Place To Get Married!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

Well where to start, the beginning is usually a good place.
We went to the Staincliffe as a possible place to get married, our big day. After a discussion with the wedding co-ordinator Rachel we decided this was the place to have our day. Friendly, helpful, experienced and bendover backwards accomodating to both of our quite demanding needs.
We went back time after time after time in the months leading up to our wedding with changes and alterations to our arrangements and nothing was ever a problem, Angela the Manageress could not have been more helpful, by the time of the the wedding she was close to being added to the guest list.
The day itself. . . . .
The bride and the groom want everything to be perfect on the day and it was, well nearly, this isn't a perfect review but very nearly.
My only criticism of the day would be that twenty minutes before the service the room was still being set up and as the groom and there before my bride i panicked a little(lot). But in the Staincliffes defence it was ready on time, i just think it should be ready for ALL guests arriving.
The food was incredible and all our guests commented on how good it was, great quality and a full belly, not a thing left over as is often the case at weddings, HOG ROAST!!
We were given the 'honeymoon suite' free of charge and what a great way to end our fantastic day, lovely comfortable room looking out to sea and very clean, what more do you want.
Next day. . . .
We woke early to open our cards, opened the curtains sat on the couch in our room looking out to sea, perfect.
Went down to breakfast and were greeted by incredibly attentive staff, they all congratulated us on our lovely wedding and made us feel so special, wasn't in the brochure or necessary but a fantastic thing to wake up to. We had friends who stayed over for the night and when they came down for breakfast they too were treat like royalty, brilliant.
The afters. . ..
We were taken back by our friends on the way back from our honeymoon for a quick drink, when we walked in all the staff welcomed us and asked 'how our honeymoon had been' and what a great day our wedding was, VIP treatment again.
In summary. . . ..
GET MARRIED IN THE STAINCLIFFE, IT'S THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE AND THEY DO EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT!!
Mr and Mrs McLachlan.

After reading reviews about this hotel we were apprehensive about our stay. We were there for a wedding. On arrival we were welcomed by a friendly member of staff who got us checked in swiftly. We entered our room to find it didn't have a sea view, we asked to be moved and we were moved. We moved into suite 20a called the silk room. The room was very spacious with a fantastic seating area by the floor to ceiling windows with an amazing view looking out to sea. The bed is the comfiest I've slept in for a long time, all I will say is the room could easily accommodate a larger bed adding more luxury and comfort. The room including the en-suite was clean, the shower was always hot and plenty of power (important after a morning dip in the sea) one thing the hotel should consider is updating the wardrobe and bedside units. They are fine but new and modern would create a bigger wow factor to match the window area and view. Eating in the grill that evening the chef had an order of 16 meals from us ranging from steaks, fish and chicken dishes. All meals came out together with NO complaints. Compliments to the chef. Breakfast was just as good and the staff were brilliant, had a bit of banter while taking the order and then left to enjoy the breakfast. Nothing was to much trouble. Which was the feeling given through out our stay. The wedding reception was held at the hotel. We enjoyed a 3 course meal served by an army of staff which ment the food and wine was served swiftly and things that should be hot were hot.
Having a group of us stay there for a wedding ment we got to see a few rooms and another suite we would recommend is Nantucker 1, a very nice room.
To summarise the staff including the manageress were friendly, social and helpful which made us feel welcome and relaxed. The hotel was clean with good facilities. The food was great in the bar as well as the grill. I do recommend this hotel and personally suggest ignoring the bad reviews.
To the hotel maybe put a bigger bed in the room and upgrade the furniture for a bigger wow factor

We stayed in rooms 16 and 18. 16 was shabby, out dated and generally very very poor, you could only get in and out of the bed from one side although it was sold as a double for to two persons! The bathroom was disgraceful, 1950's plastic toilet cistern etc etc very poor, there was only one towel and one chair. Room 18 has to be seen to be believed, although it comes with its own roof terrace that is full of weeds and dog ends ! the room is red and black including the ceiling. The only highlight is a very comfortable bed, the room is sold as en-suite although you need to dress, leave your room via the public corridor and walk along the corridor to the bathroom. I did ask to change rooms, but was told the hotel was full - amazing must be full of first timers ! Some staff brilliant the Manageress unfortunate well perhaps the less said ! Breakfast fine, just shame about the accommodation, do not be fooled by the ground floor !

We got married here on 29th February, WOW... the staff were friendly, helpful and so accomodating, we needed a few rooms early for people who had travelled, so they could freshen up, every room was ready two hours early, our wedding exeeded our expectations, we had the hog roast absolutely delicious, the staff serving were so lovely, a big massive thank you goes to Pamela without her we would never had considered such a great day possible. definitely a place to visit. The breakfast was awesome and very filling, the atmosphere around the hotel was like being at home, friendly and familiar. Rooms where all clean, we know this because most of our family filled the hotel. They were brilliant at meeting the needs of the babies that needed bottles and food warming. Will be going back for our first anniversay!!! Thanks to all the staff and again a special thank you to Pamela x

Room Tip: The rooms on the sea front are quiet even though on the round side we never heard the traffic. The m...

Stayed at this hotel and it was filthy from the moment we walked in, the staff was rude and not helpful at all. The room was disgusting, dark and musty. I wouldnt recommend this "hotel" to anyone.

As Manager of this hotel I am proud of the friendly, approachable and helpful manor by which our staff conduct themselves.
The hotel is not filthy. Our housekeeping team work to the highest standard every day.
I wish there was something specific to our hotel I could reply to and hope this is not a malicious comment.

on arrival i was given my room No 18 the gothic suite...words failed me on entering the room, i thought they were taking the mick out off me...probably the worst decor for a suite you could think off...yes i took photo's, i immediately went to reception and asked to change the room as i was far from happy...they did room 22 a lot better (could it get any worse). the room was better only two towels no glass for rinsing your mouth, the shower head leaked, the radiator didn't work in the sitting area, the mini bar was empty,(not even a bottle of water)...the whole room poorly decorated, also i was informed when i booked the room there was a 10% discount as i was part of a wedding party but never recieved it...was just glad to get out and home

Staincliffe, General Manager at Staincliffe Hotel, responded to this review, February 22, 2012
Dear Sir,

I am very glad to hear we were able to move you from room 18 as it was not to your taste. As you now know each of our rooms are decorated differently. Room 18 is often specifically requested by guests as the room they prefer to stay in.
It has a private stair case up to the third floor, dual aspect windows with panoramic views across the coastline, a private outdoor deck area and is decorated in deep red colours.
It is hotel practice to leave 1 floor towel, 1 hand towel and 1 bath sheet per guest per night. All bedroom radiators are fitted with a thermostatic valve for customers to adjust room temperature accordingly. We do not stock any of the fridges in our bedrooms. They are there for guests to use at their own convenience.
I am very sorry your 10% discount was missed. Had this been pointed out to us upon checkout we would have happily applied the accommodation discount.

Have stayed at hotel twice now and have found it be excellent on both visits, suites on the front of the hotel with sea views are lovely, did not use the restaurant, apart from breakfast which was excellent, staff always very helpful.

Room Tip: Suites are front with sea view.
