“Atmospheric Hotel”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

Just had a 2 night Dinner Bed & Breakfast stay and we were impressed by the level of service we received. We were booked into the gatehouse tower which was a lovely old room with oak beams and sloping floors however due to the cold weather and inadequate heating we asked to be moved to a different room and we were moved to the new part of the main building (room 28) which was warm and spacious. The Evening meals in the restaurant were well prepared and tasty the menu offered a good selection and the service we received was excellent especially from Paul who was always cheerful and seemed to be on duty 24 hours a day everyday! The decor is looking a little tired and some of the cleaning leaves a lot to be desired but overall the hotel is worth a visit.

Spent 3 nights at this hotel on half board. Meals were really good and served in dining room with cosy log fire. Plenty of staff and service was good.

Bedroom on ground floor was spacious but cosy. Very quiet as hotel is set in own grounds. Might be cold in winter as radiator wouldn't seem to work. Good value - would stay again if in this area but would check first that the bedroom was warm enough

Room Tip: If you want to be in the main building check at time of booking

We have just spent 3 nights at the hotel and would definitely return.
Firstly, like any hotel, it is not perfect. Claiming it to be 4 star on Booking.com is a little enthusiastic and it would probably need mini-bars, better wifi etc to match this claim.
However it is a very good hotel. From the outside it is a fantastic C17 manor house that has been extended over the years/centuries and oozes atmosphere in the older parts. We stayed in more modern rooms which were large with decent beds and over looked the duck pond. The only downside was slightly noisy plumbing. Breakfasts were decent with a plentiful supply of the usual hot foods as well as a cold buffet, all taken in a large dining hall with high windows and a large, still smouldering fireplace.
There is a large car park only a short walk from reception and it is lit at night although the sign on the main road is not - you do have to watch for it.
As a base for exploring the area it is ideal. We travelled to Ironbridridge which was a 15 minute drive and passed numerous pubs serving food, all looked worth a visit.
In all we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return ,especially if we can get the same priced deal we found online. The staff were friendly, the hotel was beautiful and peaceful and value for money was unbeatable.

I am delighted that your stay with us at Madeley Court was an enjoyable experience, I am sorry, however, that there was an issue with plumbing and I have noted your constructive observation on external signage lighting. Thank you for reviewing the hotel and I look forward to welcoming you back next time you are in the area.

We booked the mercure Telford as were working in the area and needed somewhere to stay for 2 nights. We were given room 2 in the gatehouse and it was great. The whole building and gatehouse are 16th century so don't expect anything modern. We had a very large room with lovely bed, chairs, large tv, tea and coffee a large bathroom and a hallway and mini seating area in a turret of the gatehouse. As it was separate from the main hotel it was very quiet. The shower was good and the reception staff friendly. There is wifi in the hotel but it doesn't reach the gatehouse. You can use the main hotel reception areas if you need the internet but they have a very slow connection so it's only really good for checking emails. Overall a great experience.
