We first visited the famous hotel on the sea front but when we realised you needed a mortgage for a simple cup of tea we decided to look elsewhere. It is fair to say that Morecambe has probably seen better days but Lewis's looked pleasant enough from the outside and although the decor could do with some modernisation, the inside was reasonably inviting. We had homemade soup and sandwiches which were inexpensive and freshly made. The coffee that followed was first class. We spoke to the owner who said the cafe had been in the family for years but he had only taken ownership a few months ago. He had started on an upgrade but said it would take time. He also let us try their own ice cream ( which incidentally they supply to the aforesaid hotel) free of charge. The service was excellent. An ideal place for a light lunch on a cold November day.

Long established. Seems some of the staff are long established too ;)
Very busy at 11am on a Saturday morning but still a few tables available.
Food looked ok but nothing special. Didn't try the ice cream or the cakes which looked very good. Tea was fine, in a pot which is pretty much a benchmark for a decent place in my opinion.

I'd go back for a brew and a cake, it's convenient and it's nice.

The welcome was warm and friendly, but the menu is a little old fashioned. That said I had Scampi with Chips and thought it was reasonable value. You do get a reasonable view of people posing at the Eric Morecambe statue and the front window seats are great for people watching.

I've yet to try the ice-creams and coffee, so perhaps that's a better option.

One note of caution - along with a few other places we've been to in Morecambe, it's cash only, no cards. Sign of the times I think.
