This building is slowly being brought back to life by the hard working volunteers of the Friends of the Winter Gardens. Today (27th July, 2013) there was a George Formby convention on and it was free to enter and watch many of the artists perform - wonderful. The building is not completely restored yet, but you can imagine how grand it was in its heyday, but it is getting there and is definitely well worth a visit - what a beautiful theatre. Also, note a you go in, the floor has mosaic tiles with the Winter Gardens other name spelled out, only the tiler misspelled it putting two L's in The Pavillion, when apparently it should only be one. This mosaic is now a well-loved feature of the place but I wonder what was said at the time?

Went to see the Charity Fundraiser for St John's Hospice with Jon Richardson. The inside of the building takes your breath away - beautifully ornate and incredibly detailed. There was nice space inside, and you didn't feel crammed in. Large spaces down each side meant that you could breathe, even in a packed theatre on a hot night. There only seemed to be 2 toilets for each gender, which meant that the waiting time during intervals was often up to 20 minutes. I overheard one of the organisers saying that in the future they may hire portaloos to solve this. Given that this is a wonderful venue trying to get back on its feet, this wasn't a big issue. Support the Winter Gardens - if this could be fully restored and used again, it would be marvellous.

Extensive work on the refurbishment of this magnificent building means that Morecambe will add to its growing number of attractions to suit our current generations. Success to the work!
