“A good carvery meal at a resonable price”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

The Toby Carvery is situated at the top of Broadway between Morecambe sea front, Lancaster City and The Globe, home of Morecambe football club. It is cheaper to eat here if seated before 7pm, but at any time it is reasonable value for money. There is always a choice of meats, or take a little of each joint, and as much veg as you can manage, even if you have to go back for more! If you are really hungry there is a go large option too! There is a good choice of deserts and of course drinks are available either at the bar before hand, or will be brought to your table by the friendly staff. The down side is you cannot make a reservation so at busy times you may have to wait a while to be seated.

“staff in bit of rush, food nice”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

second visit here, ordered 2 carveries, chef put piece of gammon fat on my plate, so i asked that i had a proper slice of gammon, he looked it over and said ok, rather sarcastically, we are regular visitors to carlisle toby, where nothing is too much trouble for the staff, our waitress donna seemed to assume we knew what to do, i was going to order a starter but as she couldnt be bothered coming over to the table, we went to the carvery.. she did come to ask if everything was ok, but didnt even bother to wait for an answer before she was off again, didnt even want to attempt the mash, looked awful, the turkey and gammon was delicious , along with runner beans, carrots, roasties, peas, and cauli cheese, (bit lackin on the cheese) i didnt have york pud, were far to big for me. had puddings, banana waffle and apple crumble and custard, both were quite nice. Hubby had refill glass of pepsi and i had rose wine, very nice, our waitress just then disappeared altogether, we assumed she went off shift as we were then seen by a waiter who was very attentive, and would have made a better experience for us , if we had , had him from the beginning. think we will stick with the carlisle toby..

“Decent joint -meats with our approval.”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We've been to the Toby Carvery near Morecambe on several occasions because it offers great value for money and serves decent quality food.
Service is always friendly and efficient but there can be a wait for a table and queues at the carvery counter when the restaurant is busy. However, if you time it right you can be tucking into your meal within five minutes of arriving and even when the place is crowded the delay isn't too bad.
There is a choice of four different meats and you can have all four if you want. The very sizeable Yorkshire puddings are optional and there is a good selection of vegetables, gravies and sauces. You can go back for as many vegetables and potatoes as you want but not for meat. A regular bit of entertainment is the sight of some customers with plates piled unfeasibly high when their waistline suggests moderation would be more advisable.
One slightly annoying thing is that the system for ordering drinks is rather hit and miss. You can be lucky and be asked straight away or at worst be forgotten about for a while, which can be frustrating if you are impatient like I am and keen to beat the queue.
If you sign up online you can obtain vouchers which entitle you to various offers such as 2 carvery meals for £10 or 2 two course meals for £12:50 - hard to beat. Why not give it a try and carve yourself a piece of the "action".

“SAD”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Calling in at the Toby Carvery on Easter Monday was a mistake really. The staff were polite and efficient but the meal was less than appetising. We got a table straight away as they weren't overly busy. There was turkey, beef, ham and pork on offer. I had turkey and a slice of ham. The ham was fine but the turkey was rubbery. My husbands beef was undercooked and chewy. The mash potatoes looked and tasted like the days before warmed up. The veg was cold. The only thing warm was the gravy. The yorkshire puddings were large but hard as stones. I had indigestion for hours after. The toilets were so small I had to squeeze in( and I only weigh 9 stone) and once in you have about a foot between the door and the toilet almost impossible to use. We also got charged Sunday prices because it ws a bank holiday. It cost just under twenty pounds for two including a pint of larger and a coke. I am a regular visitor to Morecambe but will not be eating at this Carvery again. It wasn't overly clean either.

“Very popular!”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

This is a very popular restaurant, I didnt realise how many people eat carvery's! it is good value and they have the system sorted. Can get a bit busy during popular times and with children but I understand why, due to the value and cost. If you like a good 'sunday dinner' definitely worth trying.
