“Great Guest House and Owners”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

We booked this at the last min for one night rather than rush up and down to see family.
First impressions are a bright and cheerful exterior and second impression was a bright and cheerful greeting from one of the owners.
The room was at the front with a large bay window looking over the propm, the bay and the lakeland hills across the bay.
My wife loved sitting in this window admiring the fantastic view and watching the world pass by.
Breakfast was excellent with my wife requesting a vegetarian version.
Can recommend highly and will return but please remember this is a guest house and not an all rooms the same hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room, well worth the extra five pounds

Thanks Stridles for taking the time to review our guest house.
It was nice to meet you and glad you chose the Berkeley. Good to meet someone from where we used to live.
I thank you also for your comment to readers that we are a guest house and not an 'all rooms the same' hotel. Some people book into a guesthouse like ours and expect the same facilities you would find in a big chain hotel.
We like to offer a warm, comfortable and clean atmosphere to make anyone's stay away from their home comforts, as pleasant as we can.
Hope to see you again.
Kind regards
Mal, Colette, Thomas and staff.

Hubby booked tickets for a concert at The Platform as part of my Christmas present. We decided to make a weekend of it and do some geocaching as well (www.geocaching.com)

We would usually stay in a hotel but all the hotels we looked at were either booked up or more expensive than we would want to spend for a casual overnight stay in Morecambe. Having read the great reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to give the Berkeley GuestHouse a try.

I can thoroughly recommend it. It's worth paying a little extra for the four poster bed room as the views are stunning. There is a little seating area in the bay window which is very pleasant.

Our plan was to arrive, have lunch, do a little geocaching, check in, do some more geocaching, get changed, go out for dinner and then onto the gig. We arrived and parked in the car park by the jetty, had a picnic lunch and a walk, did some geocaching and then went to check in, just as it started to rain.

The hotel was lovely, warm and cosy and Colette was lovely too and very friendly. We decided to have a coffee in our room to see if the rain stopped. It didn't and we were so cosy, we decided to stay put! We had a fantastic view over the bay through the big bay windows. It almost felt like we were in our own private cafe! Even the hospitality tray was brilliant. Often it can be a work of art just trying to fill the kettle with water but it was super-easy.

There was free WiFi which was easy to connect to (much easier than rubbish Premier Inn type WiFi). We always have a few gadgets and gizmos with us and like to use the iPad to decide where we will eat out or what geocaches are nearby. Unfortunately we struggled a bit - my iPhone was fine, hubby's wifi on his phone was slow and the iPad struggled to connect at all, dropping in and out. I gave up with the iPad in the end after rebooting it a couple of times. Perhaps an extra router or a plug in signal booster might help?

We were going to walk to McThai (18 minutes walk) for dinner but it was raining heavily by then so we went to Morecambe Tandoori (43 seconds walk!) which was very nice. (If you decide to go too they don't serve alcohol but you can take your own - wish I'd have known that, I would have bought a bottle of wine from the little supermarket around the corner!) It was then only a 9 minute walk to The Platform.

Breakfast the following morning was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Getting up in time for breakfast was no problem either - we could smell the delicious breakfast smells and we were soon up and out of bed. It tasted even better than it smelt!

I was a little worried about parking when we booked but it was absolutely fine - a couple of times around the block and we landed a space just across the road by the promenade. (I like a big space as we've got a new car which is much bigger than I am used to - and also, I am rubbish at parking!) There were cars coming and going all the time so I can't see that parking should be a problem. It was nice to be able to see the car and keep an eye on it.

So, a big thank you to the Berkeley for a lovely time in your spotlessly clean, friendly, warm and cosy, hotel with fantastic food. You were brilliant and we would definitely come back again.

If you are looking for a cosy, comfy, friendly, warm hotel with great food - book it now!

Room Tip: The four poster bed room has a lovely bay window with a table and seating area and great views over...

Thank you Jazzmonster, for your kind and detailed review of our guest house.
The 4 poster room is everybody's favourite, even ours. Its a pity we cant have all 12 rooms the same. Saying that, we do have other rooms at the front of the property with the same stunning view.
Regarding the wifi, I am actually waiting for a local computer shop to get 2 boosters in stock so we can place one on each of the other floors.
Despite that, we are glad you enjoyed your stay even though it was a short one.
Kind regards
Mal, Colette, Thomas and staff.

Very clean, great breakfast and great service!! We are looking to go back in the summer thanks to the welcoming staff and owners there! Highly recommend a trip here! Thanks a lot Mally and Colette! I was staying at The Berkeley with my husband for New Year and I must say what a fantastic New Years Eve we had in the bar and the New Years day meal was excellent. Mal & Collette really pulled all the stops out from the table settings to the food and the entertainment. It was really excellent. We will only stay at the Berkeley. Brilliant!

Stayed for a wintry weekend in February. We had a warm and friendly greeting, the room was clean and comfortable with great views over the bay. The only minor criticism was that the shower was on the small side but to be fair it's hard to see how it could be made much bigger in that room. Breakfast was very nice with loads of good coffee on tap. Would happily stay there again

Hi Steve, Thanks for eviewing our guesthouse.
Glad everything was ok. Yes, that shower cubicle is small but it was a big decision when we bought this place. Have all the rooms en-suite or have shared shower rooms on the corridors. The answer was obvious, all en-suite. They are not all that size and its only for having a shower in. It also muffled your singing.......
Hope to see you again.

We stayed at the Berkeley Guesthouse resently, and enjoyed every moment, from walking into a very warm welcome, excellently clean rooms, fantastic food and the prom view out the windows were the best, you would not think you were in england.
We got to know the owners, Mal & Colette, and found them very down to earth and full of fun.
We re contemplating re visiting morecambe and hope the Berkeley Guesthouse can accomadate our stay again, to the standards of our last visit.
Just like to finish with a great big thank you to Mal & Colette for making our wedding anniversary a welcoming stay and a weekend to remeber.
See you soon.

Hi Jo and Lee.
Nice to meet you and thanks for the kind review.
I have got to say, you didnt look old enough to have married that many years.(thats my creep out of the way).
The view from our front rooms is a good one. In summer, you could close your eyes and think you were abroad somewhere.
We do hope you can make it in September. It was nice to have such good friendly company.
Kind regards
Mal, Colette, Thomas and staff.
