“Poor Value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2011

The food was nice but my partner had chicken schezuan and it was practically all onion and peppers. They must have just passed the chicken over the dish! After he had picked out the little chicken there was, the dish was still full but of vegetables. We did complain and they knocked £5 off the bill, but as the dish was over £7 that wasn't really very good. Overall we wouldn't go back as there are plenty of chinese restaurants in the area, and much better value.

“yummy!”

The atmosphere wasn't brilliant but the food was delicious, not badly priced and the wait time from order to food wasn't bad.

“A taste of China”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2011

Firts class service with huge variety of delicious dishes to choose from.Nice touch when the management find its a birthday or other celebration giving the ladies a rose & other goodies. Usuall go for the "Banquet" options but struggle to eat it all. They will even bring you more if you require it !!
We tend to use it for all our families celebrations & get togethers.

“OK if you like your food bland”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2011

As I have commented on simliar lines in another review, I am amazed at reviewers who descibe this as 'the best Chinese food ever', and 'Top Notch'. I can only say that they ought to get out more (unless it is the proprietor writing it!).

The restaurant looked reasonably smart and promising from outside, and inside was equally clean and comfortable, if almost empty on a Saturday evening (but it was November!). The menu listed all the usual fare found in Chinese restaurants, and the service was friendly and efficient. But the food was so, so bland. There was really no depth of flavour in any of it, and authentic is certainly wasn't (as one previous reviewer claimed it was). The family come from Hong Kong (and do most in the business), so it is standard Cantonese style cooking, but during a lengthy conversation about Hong Kong with the lady who served us (I have spent some time there and know it reasonably well), she conceded that the food was nothing like that which is served in Hong Kong! (so much for a previous report that describes it as authentic!) She did invite me to let them know in advance next time (presumably to make it more as it should be), but as we were visitors I'm afraid there won't ne a next time - and if there as I'd be tempted to try the less smart but possibly more tasty Chinese restaurant a few doors away.

“Chinese whispers say this restaurant is top-notch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2011

Red, yellow and silver balloons floated and bobbed gently over our table as our four-strong party arrived at the Honey Tree to celebrate a 37th wedding anniversary.
With the first bottle of wine safely positioned on the table, a special banquet for four was ordered.
The feast began with succulent satay chicken skewers - really tasty - followed by shredded duck and pancakes.
Trouble is, the food is so good and served in such generous proportions, that we were already starting to feel fullish before the main event arrived! Still, who cares!
Four bubbling and sizzling dishes, including concoctions of prawns, shredded beef, chicken and pork were crammed into the centre of the table, while a huge bowl of fried rice also awaited our attention. Oh yes, and nother bottle of wine had also appeared, as if by magic!
Coffee, slices of orange and, after a loud version of The Anniversary Waltz had reverberated round the seafront restaurant, a packed cupcake stand, laden with all kinds of delicious looking bakes, was presented to round off a lovely evening.
And for good measure, that intriguing cookie which you break into bits at the end of a meal, revealed a slip of paper informing me good news was on the way!
They Honey Tree is renowned for consistency and it did not disappoint on this occasion.
A great night out!
