“The Crown deserves to do well”
Reviewed October 31, 2008

I stayed at the Crown Hotel for one night, with my son. We arrived early evening after a long drive so it was great to be able to park so easily in the car park opposite the hotel. Free in the evenings until 8am the folliowing morning and then only £1.60 to stay till 10.00am. I imagine this could be a problem in the summer months though.

The hotel appears to have had an overhaul recently and the room we were shown to was on the top floor. It was good and exceeded my expectations. Spacious and comfortable, with one double room and a twin bedded room adjoining and hall in between. Tea making facilities, a flat screen tv and everything worked fine, bar one light in the bathroom. Great shower. A selection of towels warming on the towel rail...perfect. I was greeted with a fantastic view from the room once daylight appeared the next morning, completely invisible when we had arrived the previous night.

Breakfast was served promptly and was well cooked with a plentiful supply of real coffee, hooray. One of my pet hates is instant coffee served in a cafetiere! The restaurant is on the ground floor and has a small bar/reception with comfortable seating and a range of newspapers.

The one member of staff on duty was polite, helpful, took pride in his job and was welcoming. I would recommend this hotel. In fact I would encourage people to stay as it deserves to do well, especially in these difficult economic times.

Morecambe at the tail end of October isn't going to set the world alight, but you can stroll up to the newly refurbished art-deco Midland Hotel, which had lain derelict for ten years which is worth a visit There is money being put into Morecambe undoubtedly, as the previous reviewer mentioned and the improvements are beginning to show. Just a thought.. as you look out over the vast expanse of the bay spare a thought for the miserable, lonely death of the chinese cockle pickers in such a beautiful place.

Incidentally this is not really a hotel but a b+b with the reception in the restaurant below, it has no hotel facilities at all
i note the only other review for this hotel, the photos of the promenade look amazing, he must have a very good camera but i notice he didnt show any photos of the hotel itself, the dirty stains on the carpet, the paint flaking off the walls, the paint also peeling off the windowsills etc....not a good place to stay, in fact, morecambe itself is pretty horrible, true, nice beach on a nice day but absolutely nothing else apart from cheap shops full of tacky ornaments and charity shops, i would recommend you try somewhere else for your holidays unless you're about 80 years of age, you'll fit in nicely
