Arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon for a valentines weekend to find Booking.com had cancelled our booking and failed to notify us......!!!
However a very kind, unflappable and totally professional receptionist sorted everything out for us. A credit to the hotel.
Our room was stunning and huge. It was Beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate.
On Saturday We had a lovely day in Lancaster only a short train ride away (station a 7 minute walk from the hotel) and returned in time for Our evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The meal was fabulous with excellent service. I recommend a champagne cocktail in the Art Deco bar.....a must! All in all the experience was wonderful and we will be returning soon.

Perhaps the change in weather for the good gave an indication of the lovely stay ahead of us over the Valentines day period. We were greeted promptly and quickly made to feel very comfortable and almost at home. This is a lovely building with a strong team of pleasant staff whatever their responsibilities. Cleanliness was superb, rooms brilliant, food top quality, all areas of the hotel as clean as a whistle. The views were wonderful and showed the bay in all of its glory.Every time I glanced at the area surrounding the building I was aware of staff keen to keep the outside areas spotless. Our group of six had a great time and if we had a request for a specific seating area together this was quietly dealt with. Service at all meal times was of a high standard and given with a smile and cheery word. Well done to The Midland-we'll come again.

Room Tip: Rooms on third floor are brilliant...presume other floors equally good. Hotel is let down a little b...

If you want a hotel that has a theme and adheres to it with an excellent modern twist then this is the place. The superior sea view rooms at the top are beautiful and allow for a full sea view as the two double full glass doors open fully on to the balcony, overlooking the bay. We went as 3 couples for 2 night, one being Valentine's night. The menu was superb, the white linen added luxury, the staff were excellent. We enjoyed relaxing 'platter' lunches in Rotunda Bar each day.....good to make your own, as much or as little as you fancy, mix and match.
Morecambe promenade stretches for a few miles and is easy walking on the sea front, there is a short pier and walking out there is worth the view to see the hotel in all it's splendour.
Morecambe town is sadly run down, a couple of independent traders remain but many boarded shops. Sad to see the Winter Garden building in disrepair. there may be more shops open 'in season'. Usual Greggs and Poundstretcher ( nothing wrong with either) remain in a tiny shopping centre. Across from the hotel is an old station with tourist information, lovely building. On the same site is a Morrison store with Next , DW large sportswear store and Homebase.
We had a great time, able to relax and enjoy a tranquil break with others who had similar outlook. Everyone in the hotel, including all the staff were friendly, polite and the atmosphere was a very happy one. Could recommend for short break or stopover if you travel around.

Room Tip: I would go back to the top floor superior sea view rooms every time. 308 and 306 had large balconies

This was a wonderful experience in a fabulous hotel. The art deco hotel has been renovated beautifully..
A couple of slight niggles. The carpet in the bedroom was a bit grubby and there was a stain on the cushion on the bed.
In the bar I ordered a dry martini but was given a horrible glass of bottled martini rather than a cocktail.
We also thought the special Valentine meal was vastly overpriced. It was delicious but not worth the £60 per head that it cost.
But on the positive side the service was amazing and the whole experience fantastic. The sunset was the thing that clinched it. What a sight!!!

Dear Judith H

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay.
Whilst I was glad to read that this was enjoyable, I will certainly liaise with my Housekeeping Manager regarding the coupe of niggles in your room.
I was also sorry to read that you thought our Valentine's meal to be overpriced - it was certainly more than one would usually expect to pay for three courses in our Sun Terrace Restaurant, but did of course comprise of four courses, a rose and three glasses of non-vintage and vintage Laurent Perrier champagne (hence the extra cost).
Thank you once again, and please do not hesitate to contact me prior to a future stay.

Best regards

I stay at the Midland every couple of months on business and thought I'd review it from that perspective. As some context the Midland is a renovated Art Deco hotel at the beach front in Morecambe. The building is a welcome change from chain hotels and has a great location overlooking the bay (and on a clear day a great view to the hills of the lake district).

Bedrooms are cleverly designed to maximise space and have nice bathrooms. They all have an area where you can work and wifi is free.

In terms of food, I've had room service, eaten at the restaurant and in the rotunda bar. If you are on your own I'd recommend the bar. The food has always been good with a focus on regional fare.

Staff seem to be young and friendly but service standards can be variable and I've often wondered if its a training issue. As a regular visitor there is no loyalty scheme and they don't seem to track visitors so reception always greet you as if its the first time you've stayed. Another area for improvement could be the breakfast hours of 7.30 onwards. They are religious about this (I've been told at 7.26 that the restaurant is not open) but as a business traveller you often want to get an early start.

Apart from a spa the facilities at the Midland are pretty minimal with no gym or pool. However, a beach front walk often ticks the exercise box.

Overall I'd recommend the Midland if you are working in the area but there is some scope for improvement.

Dear Lolaferrola

Many thanks for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay at The Midland.
I am unsure if you are aware of our 'At The Bar' menu which is served nightly, and was implemented following feedback from some of our 'corporate' guests - this being designed with the intention of increasing dining options for guests dining alone, but not wishing to have a more formal meal in our restaurant.
Similarly (and following other recent feedback), we are now open for breakfast from 7am on weekdays, with breakfast being available upon request before this time.
We are, of course, always looking for ways in which we can better cater for all our guests and their particular requirements, and I hope that our new opening times will prove more convenient on a future stay.

It's a step back in time to much more gentle age. With the fabulous sea views it's akin to being aboard an ocean going ship. The staff are friendly and helpfull and the food excellent. We wanted for nothing. We will definitely return. Spot the seahorses!
