Had sunday lunch there on Sunday 30th of October - very poor value for money. Quality terrible, started with prawn cocktail, very poor prawns and small portion.given a basket of dry bread, then the main meal, one piece of tough beef, roast potatoes, looked as though they had been deep fried and poor undercooked veg. - Did no stay for a desert after paying £15.50 for two courses. Will not recommend or go back thee again. Usually go to Wrangham hal hotel in Humnaby, can honestly say this place is fantastic, the chef ought to take a tip from Peter at Wrangham

just got back from a three night stay. Check in was easy and Lucy showed us to our room. Our room no 3 was large and roomy. It was on the road side but we didn't hear the traffic hardly at all. Bathroom was ok clean and spacious (long walk to the toilet :) ) Toilettries are of a good quality, facecloths are also provided(most hotels don't do this). Housekeeping staff are very helpful. The bed had a feather duvet on and a topper on the matteress which on the first night we struggled to sleep because it was to hot. A chat with Susannah and the duvet was changed for a top sheet and throw, we slept much better after that. Breakfast are cooked to order ( unusally, no blackpudding to say we were in Yorkshire!! ) Try the scrambled egg and smoked salmon, according to my better half it was execllent. We had a bar meal once while we were there again it was very tasty and portions are of a good size. Staff are freindly and welcoming always ready to have a chat.
The town is busy during the day peacful at night. Lots of different places to eat. Steam trains go from the railway station through to Whitby or there is the coastliner bus to get out without taking the car. Beck isle museum is interesting and like the "Tardis" small on the outside big once you go in.
If we were in the area again we would go back again. Thanks to the staff who made our stay a happy experience.

Stayed 1 night in August whilst passing through North Yorkshire.
This hotel has it's own free car park which accommodates approxiamately 30 cars plus spaces for disabled guests. The hotel is reached from the car park through the premises pretty courtyard and gardens.
The ground floor room allocated was compact but had everything required for just one night's stay. The bathroom was unable to accommodate 2 people at one time, however, shower was pretty powerful, the towels white and clean and the vertical blinds at the window made up for the compact space.
Sheers at the bedroom window, plus a roman blind plus a very heavy thick curtain, all helped to keep out the light and any noise from the road outside. First impression of this small room was it was dark, but it was just down to the heavy curtain draped to the right. If it was draped to the left the room would have more light.
Our welcome was super, and having stayed in many hotels this was the first time that we were walked and shown our room by the receptionist. Well done Best Western Pickering!
All staff which we encountered were professional, ready to help and came across as if they were happy in their work.
We dined in the bar instead of the restaurant and enjoyed what we had. The atmosphere was good with plenty of people around.
Three negative points: Firstly the desk chair was far too high for the desk, resulting in being unable to sit with your legs under the desk but to the side. This wasn't ideal when you have 3 hours of computer work to do.
Secondly, there were no power sockets at the side of the bed. We needed to re-arrange the guest amenities tray and wanted to make coffee other than at the desk (this was in use due to pc work). We ended up with the kettle on the floor outside the bathroom door - not ideal!
And finally, there were 3 hairs on the toilet and 2 on a pillow - yuk.
Would we stay here again? Yes, I wouldn't hesitate booking this hotel if visiting this area in the near future, providing the cleanliness issues were tackled.
Thanks for a comfortable stay.

We stayed two nights in Pickering - our first stay here. We will return to The Forest and Vale. Our 'Superior' room was very spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom was good. Everything was clean and tidy and worked properly. The king size bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast offered a wide range to order - viennoiserie, various grilled/fried options, and other permutations, all cooked to order - so much better, and more hygienic than the awful self-service buffets now prevalent in many mid-range hotels. Dinner was very good, reasonably priced, as was the wine list. Staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant, friendly and eager to be helpful. Car parking is convenient and plentiful. The whole hotel presents a bright and well-maintained atmosphere, and with its central location in Pickering it will certainly draw us back again. If you stay in Pickering and want a speciality tea or good filter coffee with home-made cakes or sandwiches and snacks, many with a gluten-free option for coeliacs, look out for Poppies Tea room. It is tucked away just out of the town centre on the hill up to the castle, but well worth finding.

We stayed at the Forest & Vale for one night with friends as we were attending a concert that evening. A nice, clean hotel with friendly staff and good breakfasts with a decent selection. We didn't eat here so can't comment on a dining experience. Nice big cark park with decent sized bays and good access.

This hotel is one of the better places we have stayed in recently and the rooms were also very clean and well appointed. A big thank you again to Jonathan, the Duty Manager who rescued us at 12.30 am when we accidently left our room key in our room!!! We would definately stay here again.

Stayed on Friday & Saturday night as B&B for a family wedding. Staff were great for the wedding and could not fault the wedding catering and hospitality, but.......

Shower over bath with no hope of getting head under the shower head.

Hot room as could not turn off radiators and windows could not be
left open as road outside.

Breakfast underwhelming for price of room. £130 Special wedding rate??

Great location for town & Steam railway from Pikkering station to North Yorkshire moors.
