“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Stayed in May Half Term Holiday for one night in a Hideaway room with my husband and daughter and two sausage dogs!

The room was lovely and in a very quiet location. Comfy bed and luxurious bathroom. All really clean. The floor was tiled so great for the dogs. Also being on the courtyard it was great for access with the dogs first thing in the morning and late evening. Its the best hotel ive stayed in with the dogs in the uk. The Waterhead in Ambleside is a close second but the great access for the dogs at the White Swan makes life easier here.

The dogs were able to sit with us at dinner and at breakfast in the bar area. It is on the small side but perfectly ok. The restaurant looked lovely with a roaring log fire creating a lovely atmosphere. The service was fab, unfortunately I didn't get the name of one particular young man that really was friendly and gave us great service. The Club room was stunning and cosy for a quiet drink. Again the dogs were allowed in there. Any travellers without dogs don't be put off as the hotel certainly didn't smell doggy! It was immaculate.

The hotel is in a great location for visiting the coast and also the other lovely villages surrounding. We took a trip on the steam railway up to Goathland. The train station is a two minute walk away.

We would definitely return to this great hotel.

Room Tip: Hideaway room perfect if you have a dog or prefer a quiet room.

Thank you for your kind review. We have always tried to be dog friendly and it amazes me that many country hotels still aren't. You and your sausage dogs are welcome, come again soon.

Had a wonderful night away with my 5 year old daughter over the Bank Holiday weekend. This was our second stay and we weren't disappointed. Every member of staff is polite, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast and dinner delicious. We're certain to be back soon.

One night is not enough. My wife and I stayed Friday May 24th.Our room overlooking the High St was excellent.
The young staff were all extremely personable, with first class customer service skills.
The food in the restaurant was sublime, the moules , were as good as any we've had in Belgium. The ginger pig pork melted in the mouth
This hotel.,with a first class pint and open fires is one of the most delightful we have stopped in.

Thank you for your 'superb' review and do come and see us for more than one night next time. In fact we often do 3 for 2 deals so perhaps keeps half an eye on our website. September is a great month to visit the area - kids back at school but everything still open, heather out on the moors and usually some pretty good weather.

We went to the NYMR 40th Anniversary on the May Day weekend and stayed for 2 nights at the White Swan Hotel in Pickering - 2 minutes from the Station.
We were in the lovely hide away rooms - it was really nice and comfortable - chosen by our daughter to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. All the staff were excellent and so very helpful. A very good choice of food beautifully cooked and served. We would recommend this hotel and look forward to our next visit.

We're just back from yet another excellent stay at the White Swan - this time to celebrate my 60th birthday with a group of 13 friends.
Although I'm a bit of a White Swan regular, it was a first time stay for most of my birthday guests. I think it's fair to say that they are all now disciples of the White Swan cause and hope to return soon.
From the moment we arrived last Friday evening, the welcome and service from everybody at the hotel was first class - warm, sincere, interested, helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble and everything was delivered as it should have been with great pride in the job.
We were all fortunate enough to be allocated hideaway rooms just across the courtyard. They are superb - spacious, quiet and with everything you could want for.
As a group, we ate in the main restaurant, and in the Bothy and in the private dining room. On each evening, the food, drink and service were faultless.
This is a really special place to enjoy (as I have) for business, for couples or as we've just done for a special occasion.

Room Tip: The courtyard hideaway rooms are great. Those on the lower level have the benefit of individual sunn...

We stayed here in May 2013 with our dobermann and our golden retriever, as part of a group celebrating a birthday. The room was spacious and we enjoyed the fabulous bath and shower. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had plenty of space. Stone tiles meant that we needn't have worried if we came in with muddy feet or paws. We enjoyed delicious food on both evenings and although the dogs weren't allowed in the restaurant it was actually a prime 'beaking' spot to sit and eat breakfast in the bay in the snug where we could watch life go by in the town. Above all, every member of staff was professional and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. We would certainly bookmark this place for a future visit.

Room Tip: We stayed in the courtyard (room 20), which was quiet, away from the street, and was on the ground f...

We decided to treat ourselves to a weekend away, the NYMR anniversary decided our destination. We were a little late at arriving at The White Swan, but it was no problem to the staff, who showed us our room and informed us that our table in the restaurant was ready when we were and not to rush. Room 10 was lovely, it overlooked the high street, the bed was a king size, complementary water, biscuits, tea and coffee. The food in the restaurant was delicious, Ryan was attentive and suggested several things on the menu that we might like. His suggestion of belly pork was delicious . There was no rush for us to vacate our room on either morning. There was a good supply of hot water for the bath or shower along with plenty of hot towels. We were greeted by friendly staff each time we passed the reception or bar . A fantastic place to stay.
