“Really enjoyable Christmas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

We stayed in lodge number 6 for the Christmas week. The lodge was clean, modern and warm, the hot tub was amazing and the highlight of our son's week, as was the farm's dog, Gyp! The lodge was ideally placed to go into Pickering and Thornton-le-dale and we really enjoyed purchasing fresh foods from the farm shop which is next door to Hagg House Farm and the lodges. We needed to speak to the owners at one point during the week and they were easy to get hold of and very helpful. We would definately stay at Tantara again in the future if we were visiting that part of the country.

Read some of the reviews after booking - so dreaded it. Arrived at our Lodge Number 4 as planned and was pleasantly surprised. it was not the largest lodge we had stayed at but it was very clean, modern and warm and ample for our needs The beds were comfortable with modern bedding. TV was small but good reception once it was tuned to correct station so most of our worries had gone. Our biggest gripe is the inability to contact anyone when needed, we had major issues with the smoke alarm setting off and not being able to stop it which spoiled our first night completely and as we only went for three it was rather annoying, and rather expensive. Issue was dealt with by mid morning next day - but what I would say as I work in customer service, i would have contacted guests to check everything was ok later - but no further contact - so service is a little poor compared to other lodges we had stayed in through Hoseasons where there is 24 contact and nothing too much trouble. If you are staying there - you will have a good time and dont let some of the other comments put you off - however dont expect to cook anything without setting off alarm and bring some of your cooking utensils and a bread knife - as kitchen has minimum equipment. Setting is lovely, and hot tub was up to temperature (though a little worn on the bottom). Electricity expensive but hot tub runs seperately so took about £10/£12 on a cold winter day - must be on a higher setting than needed as it works out far more expensive than a large house. Overall I dont think property warrants some of the negativity it has attracted but customer experience could be improved with a little personal touch!

we stayed in little owl cottage for a monday - friday break in july. the cottage was lovely and very roomy. downstairs was open plan with a small kitchen area, a dining table and lounge area with tv. both bedrooms were a good size and beds were comfy, even the little fold up bed. the best part was the hot tub which was already heated up for us arriving. it's a really quiet place which is excellent for chilling out and relaxing. it's only 10 mins from flamingo land (£12 in a taxi) which is a good family day out and 10 mins / £12 from Eden Camp the world war 2 museum which we loved. Pickering is a nice little village and we enjoyed a wander round the old fashioned looking shops. in the cottage is a handy folder with local taxi numbers, take away menus and lots of leaflets for attractions near by. we were also befriended by the owners 2 dogs, buster the older one who always looks as though he's smiling and he's hairy side kick jip. really well behaved dogs, we enjoyed their little visits and practically adopted them for the duration of our stay!! if i could have got away with it, they'd have been hidden in my car when i left :) :)

Just returned from a brilliant weekend for my 50th with friends. We hired three cottages and not one complaint from anyone. The cottages are tastefully decorated and very modern furnishings. Everything one could need. The management are extremely helpful and are available 24hrs. The hot tubs were very hot. My only critism is that it is not very well sign posted, could do with some lighting at the enterance. Also there was no one around to direct us to the cottages. The electric meter was not that expensive and you are informed beforehand to take pound coins with you. Overall i would recommend these cottages and lodges to anyone,

I stayed in lodge no 4 with my wife and 2 children aged 10 and 8. On arrival there is no reception just a contact number for assistance if required. The lodge itself is situated on the edge of woodland and positioned very well allowing privacy from neighbours. The lodge was immaculate and very well cared for. Unfortunately the electric is on a pound operated meter which costs a fortune. Everything works of the electric including the heating which is an absolute rip off. There are no facilities to obtain pound coins so you always have to keep a close eye and bear it in mind. This obviously adds unnecessary stress to what should be an enjoyable break away. We would much rather of paid extra from the start to of had it included. It was clear by how quick the meter ran down that they were making a killing on us. Although the hot tub is not wired to the meter it was in a poor state of repair. The water was not warm enough and couldn't be altered, I did try and are fully aware of their controls as we have our own. The Acrylic shell of the tub had at least a third missing that had simply worn away. When in it you could feel sand where you sat. It was clearly well overdue for replacement. There is a games room on site that is about 15 feet square that consisted of two arcade machines both of which the screens didn't work properly, you could hardly make them out, a pool table but with the balls removed and a football game all of which were coin operated. In short it was a joke. At one pint we had no hot water and had to call the provided number for assistance. Within an hour someone came and attempted to sort the problem. After five mins or so she had to leave but would be back to check if it was working again. On discovering it was I texted her to let her know. I received no reply and she never returned to check on us, in fact other than the neighbours on site we never saw anyone! In short, fab lodge let down by overcharged electricity, poor to useless hot tub but fantastic location. We would definitely not come back, we would rather pay a little extra and return to Keldy Forrest!

We have booked via Hoseasons several times and visited Tantara lodges 4 times in total, the standard of accommodation has always been just good enough, however it has got worse over the last two times with items not replaced, broken bulbs, odd mugs, saggy mattresses, the introduction of a coin meter etc in isolation these are not significant however put them together and the experience goes from a very convenient location with just good enough facilities to simply a good location.
Two specific items were a notable concern this weekend.
Firstly while it is made clear that the hot tub may not be hot upon delivery, I called in front of our arrival and asked them to see if this were possible as one of the couples staying was only there until Sunday morning, I was assured that this would be fine and the tub would be changed first giving it chance to heat. Upon our arrival the hot tub was very cold and set to economy, this meant that it would never have got warm, only our previous knowledge of hot tubs made us ring the vendor and they came out to put the tub onto heat, it wasn’t hot enough to go in until 11.00.
Secondly we have stayed there 4 times and on 2 of these occasions we have experienced problems with other guests making a great deal of noise. Of course I realise the vendor is not responsible for the noise of the guests, however to have had the same problem twice means that we would not use this accommodation again. We have stayed in many other lodges many many times and never had noise issues, yet we have had it twice at Tantara Lodges, the last time it happened it ended up with one of the other guest having an aggressive shouting match with people playing the music. On both these occasions the music played was very loud and was dance music.
I’m not sure how this can be avoided however the vendor lives on site and even though their house is not as close as our lodge was I would expect them to be attentive to what is going on and endeavour to intervene. The music was a bit of problem on Saturday but the real problem was on Sunday when it started at 2 o clock in the afternoon, and went on until midnight, it was loud repetitive and included bad language. There was also a great deal of shouting and noises from the other guests.
We are not prudes nor naive however the whole point of these weekends away in hot tubs is to relax, this is difficult to do when surrounded by very loud music containing four letter swear words. It made a great deal of difference to our enjoyment of the weekend.
Reading through the other guests comments its clear our noisy neighbours are not as isolated an experience at Tantara aswe thought, we will not visit again.
This could be a great facility but misses the point.

Just come back from a lovely stay in these lodges. I was concerned when I booked after reading the negative reviews but I need not have worried, there are a few minor niggles but that did nt deter from a lovely holiday. The lodge itself is small, clean and tidy, I do admit it needs a few extra touches to bring it up to the standard of other Hoseason lodges. The bedding needs refreshing, a dish washer would be useful and the most annoying thing is the meter for electricity, it's quite expensive and Iwould image in winter it to be quite costly with the heating on. The hot tub was nt set to temperature so we could nt use it on our first day so that was a little disappointing. Thats the negatives, it has far more positives. The hot tube is situated in a really nice secluded position and was perfect for relaxing after exploring Yorkshire. The lodge it self is in an excellent setting. The location is perfect, it's a mile and a half to both Pickering and the beautiful Thorton Le Dale. Both these villages are within walking distance and both have lovely country pubs. We would definitely stay again!
