Stayed in cabin number 59 which was located just up the hill from the retreat which was ideal. Clean and cosy cabin. Great walks around the cabins. Not to far to visit Whitby,Scarborough and Dalby forest which we did. Exceeded our expectations, loved the hot tub, perfect to relax in during the evenings.log burner nice too. No signal/wifi so not recommended if you can't communicate without using your phone haha! Loved it :) will be back.

On the good side........ We stayed in a 3 bedroom cabin with a hot tub mid week near the end of March, the hole experience was very relaxing, we were deep in the forest area a few miles outside Pickering. There are plenty of walks to do on your cabin doorstep and some lovely places to visit with a short drive. The hot tub was great and we used it every day. I would also say if you get the chance you should book the nighttime walk with the Ranger and a Night Vision scope, it was one of the highlights of the holiday! AJ the Ranger was very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, after spotting rabbits and a deer we looked up to the stars as it was a clear night and AJ proceeded to talk to us about the stars and constellations, I found this to be a perfect blend to the nights walk and ended up being almost 2 hours long (we had only paid for 1!)

The bad side........... The cabin seamed clean enough when we first got there but we soon found the showers in the bathrooms needed a good 30 minuets scrubbing to get them clean before we would use them!

On the hole we would go there again.

Thank you for your review. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your break on the whole– shower comments noted. I am pleased you went on the Forest Ranger Night Vision walk with AJ, it sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed it; once you get those Forest Rangers on to a subject they love, there’s no stopping them! I hope you will stay with us again in the future.

This is the 5th time that we have stayed at Keldy Cabins and every visit has been brilliant. Very friendly staff who can't do enough for you and as ever the cabin was spotlessly clean on arrival. There are some lovely walks on site which we enjoyed with the dog and spent the week relaxing in the hot tub surrounded by wildlife. Perfect for anyone who wants to get away from it all and spend a relaxing few days in beautiful surroundings. Can't recommend it enough.

This is the 6th time i've stayed at Cropton or Keldy.

On this occasion myself and my family stayed in cabins 3 and 6, from 21st to 24th March, unfortunately both cabins had things wrong with them. Cabin 6 was still having maintenance completed when we checked in but luckily the blokes fixing things weren't very long. Unfortunately this cabin had also not been cleaned properly and the en suite bathroom smelt heavily of stale urine. My mother went and reported this to the staff at the retreat and someone came up right away to resolve the matter which was good.

Cabin 3 had also not been cleaned properly and there was blood on the downstairs bathroom towel radiator and the sliding door handle was nearly snapped off leading to the hot tub. It was also reported to the reception staff at the retreat, apologies were offered all round and someone fixed the door after saying that it was meant to be like that.

Later on that evening, my brother went to use the shower after using the hot tub, he used the downstairs communal one and it didnt heat up at all and only ran a trickle of water. With the time being later in the evening we waited until morning to report it but again very frustrating.

The shower was tried again the following day and it was again the same which wasn't good as there was 6 of us to get ready to go out that evening. When it was reported we were pretty much fobbed off that only one person can use a shower at any one time and then patronisingly informed how an immersion heater worked! The heater was broke! The gent on reception said he'd take a look. Bearing in mind not one person had even used the shower when it didnt work.

The guy did take a look then again reminded me how an immersion heater worked and said someone would come and fix it in the morning. No one came to fix the shower!

The cabins we stayed in were a little worn and could do with a refurb, we've decided we prefer the Cropton cabins but the Keldy site.

Even though this time we had a few niggles and the cabins were a little disappointing it didnt affect our stay, we absolutely love the surroundings, the walks and the area, not to mention the hot tub.
I hope that the problems are rectified as we will be back!

On this occasion both our cabins were silver birch, the last time we stayed we had stayed in Golden Oaks and I would say that paying the extra is worth it. Cabin 3 was also pet friendly for my sisters dog which may explain why it was so tired.

Either way don't be put off, we just got some bad cabins on this occasion! The thing which was most frustrating was being fobbed off, just be honest and apologise, try rectify the problem and I'll be happy as Larry, mistakes do get made and I can live with that!

The staff at the site are really hardworking and are always busy so I understand the pressure they are all probably under, like I've said we'll defiantly be using forest holidays again and can't wait to be back.

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry that your latest break with us did not live up to the standards of your previous breaks and I appreciate your honest and considered feedback. We are currently refurbishing and upgrading our cabins and I am sure that on your next visit you will find things exactly as they should be. I am pleased that these issues didn’t spoil an otherwise enjoyable holiday and we very much look forward to seeing you again.

Had an excellent few days in the forest. No mobile signal, so no phone calls etc... But if you have the need to check things there is free wifi at the forest retreat.
Loved the fact a ranger arrived within half an hour of our arrival to go through how everything worked and did we have any questions?
Plenty to do or nothing to do.... Really recommend the breakfast pack as it is really good value for money.
My only moan and that is because it is my pet hate, dust.... Need a little attention as they have beautiful wooden ornaments but they are dusty...but otherwise amazing.. Towels were amazing, very fluffy.

The location was beautiful, really rural but just close enough to pop to Pickering for essentials. Cycling and walking very good and nicely located for lots of nice touristy things...but not in March, a lot of things are closed during the winter months. Although that is our fault for going at that time of year. The lodge itself was good, but you could tell that it had been well used over its lifetime. The hot tub was brilliant and very well maintained. Kitchen was well equipped. The showers were not very powerful and the bathrooms over all weren't brilliant. I would recommend the lodges to friends and family with dogs as the walking and proximity to dog friendly beaches is brilliant.

Stayed 4 nights. Check in faultless, staff friendly and informative. Cabin large but showed signs of wear and tear. Dog friendly, however our dog is non moulting and there was lots of dog hair everywhere.
Mop and bucket seen better days so hard to keep floors clean.... Paths outside lodges need attention as complete mud baths making you really not want to go out with your dog as muddy before you start. Shop ok.... Very expensive.... But knew would be the case. Hot tub fine but could do with non slip mats on the decking as it was very slippy in feb when we stayed due to the rain fall. Not much else to do other than walking but had a few drives out during the day. Not sure if would return as expensive for what you get.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that your cabin wasn’t up to the standard it should have been. We have recently overhauled our cleaning regime, which will improve standards and we are also in the process of updating and refurbishing our older cabins. I do hope you will try us again in the future, either here at Keldy or at one of our other UK locations.
