“Lovely Clean Hotel”
Reviewed August 25, 2014

We have just arrived home from another Break at this lovely friendly Hotel in Saundersfoot. Thank you pauline and her staff for making this possible.
The hotel sits just on the top of the hill as you enter saundersfoot. Its about a five minuite walk down the hill into the little Village . The Harbour and resort is lovely with lots of good quality little shops and restaurants.
The hotel itself is Lovely and has a outdoor swimming pool and a large restaurant, that serves good hot tasty food all freshly cooked. the breakfast is really good with a selection from full english with pastrys cakes cerials fruit, fresh juices and lots more.
It has a large entertainments room with a lovely bar , overlooking saunderfoot bay and village.
The drinks are normal price there. they serve bar snacks and evening meals. Which are reasonably priced and good.
A big thank you to Tarin who was the singer there on one of the nights entertainment acts. she was a lovely person with a lovely voice me and my Daughter really enjoyed her singing, Excellent I hope she gets noticed.
This is the fourth time we have visited the Merlewood and wont be the last.
The rooms are lovely and clean with crisp white bedding and lovely shower and bath, with tv and tea and coffee making facilities. there is a hairdryer in the rooms, anything you need just ask the reception, they will assist you.
Thank you again pauline for a lovely welcome. Hope to see you soon luv Diane and Hannah.

Room Tip: all rooms are nice but a sea view or village view is best

As they say you get what you pay for !

This is a less than expensive hotel , so don't expect 5 star service.

It gives you great staff who will always go out of their way to make you happy .

You will never get a better Value For Money hotel with a view to die for . DSP

We have been coming to this hotel every year since 2004 for our August holiday and we have never been disappointed. It is a family hotel run for and by a family. The view of Saundersfoot harbour and beach is superb. The outdoor swimming pool complete with sun lounging area is also a delight. The full breakfast or if you prefer a continental style breakfast is quite as good as you get in higher priced hotels. Whether you go half board and eat in the dining room or prefer to have a meal from the bar menu nothing is too much trouble. There is even the bonus of entertainment on most evenings. All the staff are very friendly. For families with small children this is a great place. There are even launderette facilities on site. There are plenty of various sized family rooms which help families keep their costs down. All rooms are ensuite and have televisions, tea/coffee making facilities. There are ground floor rooms as well.
A big thank you to Pauline and her staff. We are already looking forward to next year.

Room Tip: We always ask for sea facing because of the great view even though we have to pay a little more.

We have just come back from another great stay at the Merlewood Hotel. We have been staying here for 17 years now and each time we really enjoy it (the reason why we keep returning).

The staff are brilliant and offer great service - thank you Pauline, Andrea, Russell and all! :)

Reading some of the previous reviews of this hotel, I wonder what goes through peoples heads..."nobody to serve tea/coffee on the veranda at 7:00am so had to go back to my room" - probably because it isn't a 5 star hotel so there aren't staff constantly there to wait on you, it's a 2 star hotel but a very good one! - Please read other reviews...there are a lot of positive ones!

This hotel is great for couples / families wanting a nice break away. The staff are great, the pool is lovely to swim in (once your used to the temperature), breakfast is also delicious with plenty of choice from the buffet.

Dinner in the restaurant has a good choice and there are bar meals available at lunchtime / dinner time (lovely to sit out on the balcony and have a meal in the sun!)

Free wifi is also available in the reception area (and it just about reaches the bar / lounge!)

Just spent 8 nights at The Merlewood. Situated overlooking tbe village of Saundersfoot. Great choice at breakfast and at least a meat dish, fish dish and salad for evening meal. Friendly helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. Nice pool which can be a bit fresh. Mind St Brides Hill gets steeper walking back up every year. Thanks to Pauline, Russ, Andrea, Steve and the rest of the staff for a great holiday.

The real charm of this hotel lies in it's wonderful view and the exceptional staff, very friendly, highly accommodating and you are always greeted with a warm smile! Big shout out to Richard - Top bar man. Look past the tired decoration and trimmings and you will appreciate the 5 star service on offer. This hotel is very clean, I had a great night's sleep, received a wonderful service with my great breakfast. If you are all about the packaging this place may not be for you, but it you love to check out with a smile on your face give this affordable gem a go, very reasonable for a 2* hotel!

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool, indulge yourself with that wonderful view!

The Merlewood is a great located hotel though on a top of a hill not to far to walk back from an evening meal in Saundersfoot. The hotel on arrival was quite impressive.Greeted warmly on reception, this was the last time I can say we really saw anyone other then when we had to ring the bell for a drink as no one was around and then the receptionist had to get up to service us.We went down for morning coffee on the decking at 7 am only to have to go back up the room as again no one around. The hotel it's self needs updating, there is a certain lived in smell ,however it is reasonably clean. Our bathroom have mold around the bath area(room 21) and the room's furniture was tired and out dated pine. The windows were misted up due to condensation. The bed linen however was clean and fresh. The carpets need replacing. The pool area needed weeding thought the water was clean. With a little tlc and staff around this would be an exceptional hotel as the views were to die for.
