Description: The Bunch of Grapes at Ynysangharad Road Pontypridd backs onto one of the last few remnants of the Glamorganshire Canal which was constructed in 1792. Built circa 1800 to satisfy the thirst of the hot forge masters who were making all the heavy anchor chains for the British Navy and all the passing canal workers on their way with to Cardiff with full loads of Coal and Iron Ore, business was brisk with male dominated ale consumption. This trend continued to well into the mid 1900's. It is rumoured that when Isombard Kingdom Brunel came to visit the Chainworks he was so impressed with what he saw and on securing the deal to supply him he celebrated with an ale in the Bunch of Grapes. Now tastefully and sympathetically refurbished the Bunch of Grapes offers a warm relaxed atmosphere both in the public bar and the restaurant where the emphasis is on quality, locally sourced foods, ales and ciders. First visit but sadly the last. Visited for birthday outing as daughter had wanted to try it out; sounded interesting but reality failed to live up to expectations. Parking a nightmare. Inside quite pleasant, but menus displayed only on blackboards are a bit of a pain, as noted by others. The service was generally good, the waitress was friendly but the bottom line is the food was frankly average at best, with some dishes poor and overpriced. At first glance the menu looked quite interesting, but they seem to be trying too hard to make the dishes interesting and not focusing enough on making sure they are well prepared. A shame but not worth the bother.

This is a great place to go for lunch or in the evening. The restaurant is a nice space and there is a conservatory too. The menu is varied and food is excellent!
Car park is small so share transport!

have had several meals here and never disappointed with any of them.
food is great and the staff are very pleasant.
The beer is also first class as the "bunch" has their own micro brewery.

Got taken here for a birthday treat and was pleasantly surprised. Restaurant is an adequate size but chairs seem to be too big for the tables! Lovely real grape vine growing up the walls/celling. The menu was written on blackboards on the walls, which is fine as long as you arent sitting in front of them, as you may feel that others are hovering over you. We opted for the steak which was tasty and cooked really well. Same about the chips though, very thick and taste wasn't to our liking. Had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and was fabulous.
Would recommended and eat here again but due to price it would be for a special occasion.
