“Great place to stay”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

This is a great place to stay and at £80 for the room including breakfast for 2 good value too. Our room on the 3rd floor (one of the white rooms) was suprisingly large with a massive bathroom. The shower was both hot and powerful. The bath large and roomy. The bed was exceptionally comfortable.
We ate in the restuarant both nights of our stay and enjoyed everything we ate. There is a bar where we were able to enjoy a good pint of guinness watching the euro football. Breakfast was good and the full english could be quite overwhelming !!
All the young staff were friendly and helpful. Even though some of them have to double up in both the bar and restaurant. Overall the service was very good.

Other reviewers have mentioned some noise disruption at weekends but we stayed in midweek and there was none at all.

Overall this is a great place to stay and if in the area Pontypridd would make a good base to explore the area.

The only downside is that some roads are being replaced with fancy block paving and there is some disruption in the town centre. However this does not outweigh the good points of the hotel.

Room Tip: The white rooms on the third floor would be my choice

What a great little hotel this is in the centre of Pontypridd. My friend and I needed a twin room for the night as we were cycling from Swansea to Bristol. They didn't have one free so instead gave us each a double room for the same price! The rooms were both stunning and comfortable with large bathrooms. After a day in the saddle it was lovely to be able to relax in a bath! The food in the hotel restaurant was okay but it was good value. Breakfast the next day also okay - not the best we've had but it set us up for the day. My friend said she had some noise from people after pubs closed at the front of the hotel but the room I had was fine, from that point of view.

I booked in here as a colleague I was working with was already booked in here, after making the booking I saw a few reviews on the net that were less than complimentary so I arrived with trepidation
Well the check in was quick and efficient the room spotless with good wifi,a nice large TV,Beverages with proper milk in a little fridge and as an extra touch 2 delicious complimentary Welsh Cakes
Even meal had a major Italian bias but the choice was good and the excellent with good sized portions
Breakfast next day really good and very good service
All in all a very pleasant experience

Stayed on a Monday night, when it was very quiet. The rooms have been prepared to a very high standard (I had one of the French ones). The odd shape of the room meant that the bed was at the end, surrounded by walls on three sides. It was comfortable, though. I had a view of the side of the Market Hall, and a "wake you up" service from some heavy duty extraction equipment.

Breakfast was oddly disorganised (despite only two people being in the restaurant at 8am). It took them twenty minutes to produce the main plate. Too many of the (good quality) ingredients had been sitting round drying out!

I fancied the advertised still and sparkling water, and perhaps the piece of Welsh cake, in the night. They were nowhere to be found in the room (and yes, I did look in the fridge). I did not feel like going down to seek out the (keen and friendly) "night porter".

Room Tip: My local friend tells me that you don't want to be too close to the Karma Lounge on the first fl...

Plush and clean first impression but returning exhausted after a busy day all that was required was relaxation. The club which is a long term lease of the hotel started up at 8pm by 10pm there was no point turning up the TV we couldn't hear it on the loudest setting. By 12 the karoke started with the less than tuneful drunks slurring! On calling the manager I had to shout across the room to be understood! A little after 1am they announced goodnight to everyone. Yes we could hear every word of every song and the whole room groaned with the bass vibration! Then the revellers piled into the kebab shop opposite and yes they had a good night, I didn't. Would not recommend it to anyone just in case it is a club night!

Room Tip: This experience was two floors above the club not sure about the others!

I wanted somewhere for an overnight stay which was convenient to this area, so booked based on previous reviews. This hotel, above a restaurant, is in the centre of Pontypridd, and is convenient if arriving by train. I understand the parking is a short walk away. My room, on the second floor, was very comfortable and felt light and airy. It was well equipped with a hairdryer, complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee facilities and an iron and board in the wardrobe. Everywhere was spotless. As you might expect of a town centre hotel, it is affected by outside noise from the other nearby eateries and clubs and the chiming of the town clock - so be prepared. I did not eat breakfast which is served until 10am, but did return for lunch, which was delicious and excellent value for money with two courses for under £8. I think the Blueberry Hotel is an unexpected delight and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask which rooms are quieter, if this is important to you.

Visited the restaurant. Food was really good and reasonably priced and busy.
The bar adjoining it serves great cocktails too, and had a live singer in there (although it is a tiny bar area.
My only gripe, was that at around 9pm you could hear the thumping bass from the club above the restaurant, once the guy in the bar started singing I didnt notice it, but it wasnt great until that point.
I still would go back there though as the setting is really nice inside, and the service is good.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Blueberry Inn is a unique hotel located in the centre of Pontypridd, South Wales. Owned by the Pontypridd Market Company and formerly known as the Market Tavern, this 5 storey building underwent a drastic overhaul, with refurishments taking up to two years for completion. The Blueberry Inn had a grand re-opening in December 2008 which did not disappoint, worth waiting two years for the Blueberry Inn shocked and amazed with its dramatic makeover, what was once the Market Tavern seemed completely unrecognisible with many finding it hard to believe it was the same building. The Blueberry will blow you away with it's attention to detail and design. All the rooms are fully equipped with all the mod cons and have all the comfort's you would expect from a top end hotel. The building itself is host to a superb bar and restaurant serving a variety of exquisite cuisine, with breakfast available from 7am, lunch specials from 12pm and a la carte from 6pm. Also host to two exceptional function rooms, on the first floor, the kalma lounge, a boudair themed function room that has played host to a variety of events from wedding receptions to charity nights. Down in the basement you will find the Glo bar, the smallest of the two, this ice themed room with built in wall water features is a real favourite for childrens parties. On the whole the Blueberry Inn is a real gem in the heart of the Valleys and worth a visit for whatever the occasion ... more   less
