During a trip through Scotland I stayed at Willy Wallace Hostel one night. The place would be nice but the showers are just the worst I've ever used in a hostel in my life. First of all, there was no hot water. Ok, let's say that just happened that night. However, the space in the male showers is a joke! You cannot move! I had to sneak into the family/ladies showers that are nicer, but again, there was no hot water. The toilets are kind of clean.
I read other reviews saying that the showers were brilliant. Maybe the ladies room is ok.

The dorms are OK. They are not small at all. If you can handle the bathroom and showers issue maybe it is a backpackers that worth a try for no more than a couple of nights.

During our trip through Scotland we stayed at Willy Wallace Hostel twice - with a week in between the two stays. And those stayscould not have been more different.
On our first stay we had the family room un the upper floor - it was the only private room left but was the same price as a double, so that was fine. The room was comfortably and nicely decorated. The only disadvantage that there is heavy frequented bar down the window, so we would need to keep that closed because of the noise. Showers and toilet were in the same room and could have been a bit cleaner but it was ok.
The kitchen is big and the common room is very cosy, you feel at home at once in there.
For those reasons we decided to come back to the hostel. This time we were assigned a double room but were told that it has a high-bed only when we already arrived there. The room was located on the down level and clearly appeared to be a room which is normally ment for the staff to stay. The room was dirty (stains on the walls, spiderwebs) and lacked the comfort of the upstairs room. As it was located next to the laundry room and to the aircondition apparatus outside the window, and with the walls being very thin, it was too noisy to get good sleep. In addition - maybe the worst of all - the showers next were black with fungus on the ceilings, which you could not only see but also smell.
If you stay at Willy Wallace, just make sure you DON'T GET ROOM NR.1 OR 2 - noisy and dirty. But the upstairs triple room is nice. And so is the common room.

Room Tip: Keep away from rooms 1 and 2. Upstairs family/triple room is nice.

Stayed 4th/5th October. Were not told about the vast number of stairs. Staff knew less about Stirling than we did. Most of the staff had minimal ability to communicate in English. Double room VERY NOISY but bed was comfy. Toilets and showers were totally insufficient for number of rooms. Our advice is simply do not go there. Discuss problems with staff - good laugh that but only too glad to talk to trip advisor.

Room Tip: Go anywhere else but here.

Spent 2 nights here. Everyone was really friendly. Place nice & clean, beds comfy & the shower was brilliant.
This hostel is right in the town centre.
I would recommend this hostel to anyone wanting a cheap stay in Stirling. Willy's is great value for money.

I loved it, it's the best way to stay in this lovely town, it's cozy, it's social and it's really cheap. The staff are really friendly and are actually long term travellers, the rooms are nice and quiet (not too much noise from outside). all in all this hostel is really worth every single penny, and more since it's not expensive.

I would recommend willys to everyone who is looking for a cheap and cosy place to stay in the beautiful town of Stirling. People in Scotland are friendly, but the staff in willys beats it by far! Great, great hostel!

Good hotel in excellent location. nicely decorated. good wifi and computer is free to use as well.
one problem - too many woofers. there are about ten employees that are working in exchange for accommodation. that creates an uninviting atmosphere where everyone already knows each other, yet you know no one as there are more employees than guests in the common areas.

Hi Eilon,

Thank you so much for your helpful review. We currently have six staff who work for their accommodation and we encourage them to be as welcoming as possible to all guests. I can only apologise if you felt uneasy in any way during your stay. We find having live in staff very beneficial as there is always someone on hand to give the guests some local advice plus they generally create a very warm atmosphere in the hostel. We have French, Spanish, Italian and Danish on our roster at the moment and we always encourage them to speak in English as this is mostly the common tongue of all guests.

I wish you the best of luck in all your travels,

Hewie
