“Pricey pub grub”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Nice clean and very pleasant atmosphere. All staff encountered were very friendly and helpful. Food was decent sized portions, very tasty and served on warm plates. Criticism lies with the cost, although food very tasty was nothing that you coudnt get from a supermarket for a couple of pound yet paying nearly a tenner for a main course seems a bit steep given essentially a chain pub.

“Just ok, but great nachos”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We visited this place for lunch with our toddling daughter and 2 friends. The place looked good and was a pretty big inside, allowing our youngest party member to have a wee wander off now and again. The decor was reasonably good.

We had haggis nachos to share for a starter and they were gorgeous! Lots of haggis, big portion and tons of sauces. They were seriously good. 3 of us had fish and chips for main. The fish was fresh and the batter was crispy, however the chips were pretty poor and the peas were a little dry. The other person had lasagne which was described as average.

It was decent pub grub but nothing to write home about.

The service was attentive in the beginning but lacking after our meal and we ended up going up to the bar to pay.

“Very nice place!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Went to this restaurant yesterday night and enjoyed very much. Prices are quite reasonable and food is very nice. I really enjoyed the haggis & cheese nachos and the BBQ ribs. Decor very nice. A little bit more of ambience would have been nice, but after all it was a tuesday evening. Will come back to this place for sure!

“Looks like a chain pub but actually a lot better.”
Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Hidden round the back in the castle walls (hence the name) inside it looks like any chain pub however the food and drink on offer us better than those without being any more expensive. Service fast and attentive. Very good value.
