“Staff excellent”

We were given an unserviced premier room and were quickly moved unfortunately to a standard room. They allow gym users and others to park so we had to park on the street (you need to pay and move during the week). The hotel is not easy to find so ensure you have the necessary directions to the 'old school' and the building is heritage. Staff were very good.

Room Tip: Ask for clear directions to the hotel and arrive early to find a park- don't arrive late!

Having used the Puma Marine Hotel in Troon on 3 occasions, twice for spa days and once for an overnight stay with dinner, b&b I expected this to be a similar experience as it was the same price. Disappointingly the only thing which came close were the Spa treatments.

The receptionist on duty in the hotel when we arrived had a very offhand attitude. The 2 course lunch was ok, not a huge selection on offer and the portion sizes were large and the fare quite stodgy for a spa experience lunch.

The leisure facilities again are just ok. The changing rooms and toilets are clean but badly in need of a refurb and the pool area was clean with jacuzzi, sauna etc available. The reception staff at the leisure facilities were pleasant enough but the seating area there lacks comfort. The robes towels and slippers provided were adequate.

The treatments were very good, two of us took up the 30 minute each mini manicure and facial offer with the other person in our party opting for the one hour manicure. The therapist was very calm and had a good attitude despite being very busy due to someone calling in sick. We had been advised by phone in the morning that our treatments times had been changed.

The relaxation room was very small but nicely decorated, Again this was lacking slightly in comfort due to the seating arrangements, no comfy couches or loungers and there were the usual supply of hot and cold drinks available.

This was not an overnight stay so I can't comment on the bedrooms. The location is good, handy for all the attractions in the area and easy walking distance to the Castle and the shops.

Location - the hotel is very central with all things to see and do in Stirling centre within walking distance. The hill up is not that steep and takes about 2 minutes to walk it.

Exterior- the hotel is going through major renovation outside so it really eetracts from what could be a v.nice building and also from the view from a lot of the rooms. There was no noise at all from this though.

Interior - the hotel is old style country manor inside and it suits it. It was very clean and tidy, large windows so lots of natural light.

Rooms- the rooms were ok. Not in my eyes four star hotel though. There is not nearly enough cupboard space so dont plan to stay more than 2 nights and the cupboard door was just a piece of stained sliding wood. The hairdryer is awful!!! The bed was actually one of the best I hav stayed in a hotel so that was great. The bathroom was outdated and again not even smallest hint of any luxury you would expect from a four star hotel. There is a large tv and coffee/tea making facilities.

Food - the breakfast was fantastic. There is plenty of choice and it all tastes very fresh. The dinner was nothing more than ok, I had cod wrapped in parma ham which was all a little greasy and flavour wise completely overpowering. Dessert was lovely I thoroughly recommend the cranachan, the presentation of this dish was also nice.

Staff - there aas plenty of them and they are very efficient. Only issues we had was the reception girl on Friday who seemed to have forgotten how to smile and the hassle of trying to get tea or coffee at breakfast she was a bit rude.

Facilities - the gym here is immense. The leisure facilities are excellent the only issue was it was a bit cold and the towels were tiny. It has a good sized pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. Changing rooms are good as are showers.

On holiday in Scotland we decided to stay here based upon a recommendation of someone who had stayed here earlier in the year and had enjoyed their stay. The lobby is nice. Our First room had a smell that would not go away even after we left the window open for several hours. We asked for a change of room. As we relaxed before dinner another guest unlocked our new room and entered expecting the room to be empty. Our scheduled dinner time arrived and the mediocre service continued. Service was slow, the meal was sparse in size and marginal in taste. Considering that the restaurant was not busy, the service should have been exceptional. Our recommendation would be to find another hotel.

This is not a 4 star hotel, more like a good 3 star. They are obviously working on improving the facility and the rooms are nice and clean. The location is just below Stirling Castle and has a few restaurants within walking distance. The bed was too soft and lumpy for my comfort. There is construction work next door that begins at 8am so sleeping in is out of the question until the workis completed which may be awhile.

More hotel leisure facilities than luxury spa but treatment was second to none. Neck back and shoulder massage and luxury facial. We had lunch which consisted of garlic mushrooms on a bruschetta followed by fish, chips and peas....just what the doc ordered
