“Great guesthouse”

I wanted to book somewhere near gatwick that would include parking for our car and that the car would not be moved to another site and thats exactly what I got.

We booked a family room for us and our two young boys ,it was bright and clean .Had a double and two single beds, ensuite,tv,alarm clock .
This is a family run business and the people are very friendly and helpful.

They recommended the Ye olde six bells pub/Reataurant to eat which was a great choice and in walking distance.

We were taken after breakfast to the airport and given written instructions on where to meet and no to dial for return journey.

On our return we were picked up as promised very promptly and was very impressed with the service.

It cost us £111 to stay overnight, including breakfat and transfers to airport and parking for 15 days.

We booked 1 night + 8 days parking onsite in a double for the special offer rate of £70. Car was safely parked in the car park. Our flight was at 7am so the owner booked us a cab for 5am and gave us a large room right by the the main door so we wouldn't disturb anybody. Self service breakfast was still available at this time with cereals tea coffee and fruit juices available. Transfer cab arrived on time and was just £5 (transfers between 7am and 10pm are included in the excellent price). Room was large and clean with a double and two single beds. It's about a 10 min walk in to Horley where we fould a cheap and cheerful pub to eat in. On the return we called the hotel and we were picked up within 15 mins despite the stringent security checks. I'd fully recommend considering this hotel over and above the more well known options.

Having a nearly 24-hour layover at London Gatwick, I decided a nearby B&B might be the way to go. Found the Turret on a local B&B website and it seemed appealing so I contacted them and made a reservation for two rooms - a single and a double, as it was my husband and myself travelling with my mother. As advertised, they did pick us up at the airport when we called with an estate car that was easily large enough to accommodate the three of us with luggage. The rooms were clean, well-appointed and comfortable.

Having arrived early afternoon, we took the proprietor's recommendation and went for lunch at Ye Olde Six Bells pub, within a short walk from the Turret. It's a quaint little place serving outstanding food - highly recommended.

We then took a walk down to the local Horley train station, maybe 8 to 10 minutes away from the Turret, and caught a train into London. We bought day passes to simplify using the Tube to move around various areas of London. For some reason, the Sunday afternoon we visited, we were able to buy three day passes for the price of two, so it cost us just under ₤20. Checked the schedule and return trains run about every 30 minutes, although approaching midnight the number of trains actually stopping in Horley goes down to about one per hour. But you could always take one of the regularly-running trains to Gatwick and then a taxi back to the Turret if necessary.

Breakfast was at a pre-arranged time of 8:30 am, and as we had expressed a preference for a hot English breakfast (vs the other option of continental), we were served a fried egg, sausage, bacon and toast. A pot of coffee (barely passable but not worse than most British coffee) was brought to the table, and a refill was offered partway through the meal. Juice as well as cereals, fruits and condiments were available on a side table. That was the continental breakfast option.

After breakfast we had a bit of time to walk around the local town and look in the shops. There were a lot of charity shops in town, so if you're looking for some inexpensive books and the like, that's a good option. There was also a Waitrose grocery store available.

When we were ready to go again at a pre-arranged time, we simply let the proprietor know, loaded up the car, and he returned us to the airport - a trip that took probably less than 5 minutes.

All in all a most pleasant and uncomplicated visit at a very good price and much more personal than some discount hotel near the airport. Highly recommended and we will stay there again if we ever have another layover at Gatwick.

Stayed overnight on 26 August 2006 booked two double rooms plus parking for car for 16 nights at the Turret Guest House Horley Gatwick on route to Morocco.

This is a charming guest house situated in Massetts Road in Horley which is a 5 minute drive to Gatwick Airport. The town centre is 5 - 10 minute walk away and has some nice restaurants to choose from. We choose a family restaurant which was suitable for children plus they had a play area as we were meeting up with my brother and sister in law with their son.

Paid for double rooms and received a huge family room which consisted of double bed plus two single beds which overlooked the front of the guest house. . Our friends recieved a family room also which was situated at the back of the guest house with a double bed plus single bed. Each room had tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer, fan, heater, television and sky. Both rooms had beautiful white bath towels. Not sure if we had received new towels but if not these were the cleanest whitest bath towels I have ever seen in a guest house (should have asked what powder they used if not new).

The room we stayed in was well presented and clean with a small en suite which consisted of small shower (similar to caravan type shower cubilcle) toilet and wash hand basin (the family room for four, wash hand basin situated in bedroom, this was actually handy to use whilst someone in the en sute).

The breakfast we received was lovely, you could choose from a table laden with about 4 - 6 different cereals plus jams, marmalade, peanut butter etc. Their was a big jug filled with fresh orange juice and a water dispenser in the corner of the breakfast room. Full English or Continental breakfast to choose from. We had pots of tea and coffee which were filled up when requested plus racks of toast (white or brown).

We left after 12 midday to go to Gatwick for our flight at 3 pm. The transport was a mercedes estate which took the four adults plus 4 cases comfortably. We were arriving back to Gatwick at midnight therefore transport is not available at that time so you have to have a taxi. (On web site it states transport between 7 am - 8 pm, on UK beds it states 7 am - 10 pm so make sure you check as we did not use the return transport).

We left the car in the front of the guest house and was explained that you had to leave your car keys and that your car would be removed to the back of the hotel (huge grounds at back) and on arriving back to Gatwick it would be then moved to the front of the guest house. Their is a key safe procedure on returning outside the above hours to enable you to retrive your car. You only pay for the parking whilst away on holiday.

This guest house is completly non smoking (one of the reasons we chose this guest house). Nothing seems to be to much trouble, I had previously phoned to ask if I could come in the morning and leave our cases and also requested if we could leave our rooms later the following morning this request was met with a yes immediately and stated no problem. After a few months we realised that as it was a Bank Holiday weekend and that perhaps more people would be going away with their cars etc, I emailed the guest house to ask if we could come even earlier and asked if our valuables could be put into a safe as we had decided to visit Brighton for the day and we could not leave our cases on show or take our valuables with us for security reasons. On arriving at the guest house at 11 am our rooms were actually ready, we took our cases upstairs and unpacked, our valubles were put into the safe until the following morning and we were at Brighton by 12.30 that day. Make sure you have enough sterling if you do not use their transport back as on web site it states taxi £4 we paid £7 from airport but did not pre book so might have been cheaper.

There is no lift at this guest house so it might not be suitable for disabled guests, although I did see a member of staff carry up cases belonging to an elderly couple.

This was a great start to our holiday and would certainly recommend this guest house.
