“Sofa bed not great!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

Stayed here the night before an early morning departure. A bit chaotic when we arrived, but reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was fine, if not a bit tired looking. However, the sofa bed was awful for our sons, the mattress was extremely thin and was too small for the base...how they actually slept I have no idea, poor things! Another not too good point was the charge for the transfer to and from the airport, £3 per person per way, so my husband dropped us off in our car and then we only had to pay for one person....! The air conditioning seemed to have a mind of its own too, despite lowering the temperature it kept returning to 28 degrees, wonder if it was trying to prepare us for our holiday? Would I go back? Not sure, I think I might prefer a bit of a plusher way of starting my holiday, think my sons would agree with this! However, it was good value, and staff were very nice.

Dear Llondbol,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our property. I am so glad you liked the friendliness of our staff. I am very sorry for the experience you had with your mattresses and the sofa bed that affected your stay negatively. I am also sorry for the inconvenience caused by the Air Conditioner in your room and the Airport Shuttle rates that did not live up to your expectations. Your feedback is very important to us as this assists us in continually improving the services and facilities we have to offer to our guests. Thank you for staying with us and we hope you give us a chance to show you how great our hotel is.

Sincerely,

Anthony M

Used this Hotel for the on site airport parking. The room was fine for 1 night and the parking was easy enough as your car stays on the Hotels grounds. The cost of the shuttle bus is £3 per person each way, if there is more than 2 of you I would suggest that you might want to consider a Taxi not only due to the cost but if you are using the North terminal you will have to walk a ways with your luggage as the bus stop is not directly outside the terminal. Having said that the dropping off and collecting your car from the hotel is a simple process.

I booked this stay purely because of the 8 days parking offer, so this review is more about the car parking than the hotel. I had only the month before parked my car at the Gatwick North long stay car park and was quite impressed with the shuttle bus service picking up and dropping off right outside the airport terminal. But the hotel and 8 days parking seemed a good offer, costing me £90 for an overnight stay with 8 days parking included, so we opted for that one. We arrived late in the evening around 9pm and the car park was very busy and I struggled to find a space to park. The hotel is just down the road from the last roundabout before you head off to the long stay North car park, so not too far away. I did notice that the car park seemed to have cars parked nose to tail on grass, in between the normal car parking bays, but thought no more of it. When we checked in, we were then told that the shuttle bus runs every 15-30 minutes (depending on time of day) to the airport, but goes via the South terminal first and stops at a couple of hotels on the way there. I was also told it would cost £5.50 each way for each passenger, a total of £22, which was not listed anywhere that I could see on the hotel web site. The hotel was very nice, clean and modern, comfortable bed and very quiet considering we were virtually at the airport. I then discovered that you had to leave your car keys with the hotel, as they move your car to a secure location after you fly out, but accept no liability for loss of anything in your car. I would not have booked the hotel if I had known this in advance, but again, it did not explain this on the web site. The hopper bus was on time next morning and got us to the North Terminal in about 20 - 25 minutes, because of the stops on the way. It drops you off not outside the North Terminal, but about 400 yards away at a bus station type arrangement, so you have to drag your suitcases along the walkway to the entrance. We had a nice holiday and returned back to the bus stop, looking begrudgingly at the Gatwick North Terminal long stay bus which picks up right outside the terminal. After waiting around 20 minutes, a bus came along which we thought was ours, but a very rude driver explained it was a Holiday inn hopper, but not the one that we wanted. He was obviously in need of some customer care training, but was maybe tired from driving round in circles all night! Anyway, we eventually got on our bus and in minutes was back at the hotel. The car pick up was quick, within minutes of arriving in reception. On going to my car, it looked liked the driver had been in a hurry or had slid the car into the parking bay, the angle it was parked at. I then realised that the secure parking is simply the nose to tail parking in between the parking bays on the grass! This is why you must inform them accurately of your pick up time, so they can get your car out. So to sum up, it is a nice hotel, the parking is reasonable, but don't forget to add on the hopper costs when comparing. The bus trip to the North Terminal is around 20 minutes leaving the hotel and 5 minutes on the journey back. Without doubt the Gatwick official long stay parking is the better parking option all round, closer, quicker and more courteous drivers and you also know your car will be where you left it!

Dear Guest,

Thank You for your review. Please could you contact me directly to discuss this matter further. As mentioned the bus driver who was discourteous was not related in any way to this hotel. Our car parking is set up in a way to keep all guests cars secure. We have CCTV coverage, barriers, regular patrols etc. The cars are moved due to the fact we have a system to store the long term stays elsewhere in a more space efficient manner. Please e-mail adrian.arnott@ihg.com.

Kind Regards,

Stayed with wife and two kids in family room over night with 8 days parking.

Dinner was good and kids ate free

Room a little small but adequate

The bus to the airport was going to be £9 and go via south terminal (we were going North) so we took a taxi at 4.30 am that cost £6.

My car had been moved whilst away and was a long walk from the hotel to recover it.

Driving its only 5 mins from terminal

We stayed here for one night together with an eight day parking package. We found the hotel easily and parked the car at the rear of the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient. The room we were allocated was on one of the upper floors. The room was quiet, immaculately clean, spacious, the bed reasonably comfortable ( lets face it there is nothing quite like your own bed ), tea and coffee provided and a very good shower available. As we arrived quite late ( about ten p.m. ) and left early ( about five a.m. ) we did not eat here so I cannot comment on this, but there seemed to be a variety of options available. The shuttle bus that transfered us to the airport was on time and only stopped once at another hotel on the way to the airport. When we returned we caught the shuttle bus back to the hotel and picked up the car without any problems. I would book this hotel again if I was in a similar situation in the future.
