“Perfect for pre-flight stay!”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I booked this B&B having read the positive reviews, and I'm really glad I did. We had a lovely ground floor room with a huge bathroom with massive shower and the beds were super comfy. Had a lovely full cooked breakfast the next morning and Clive took us to the Airport at the time we requested. Both Clive and Carmel were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us - I really reccommend this for anyone who wants a place to stay before or after their Gatwick flight.

When I phoned to confirm Carmel asked if we'd like a table booked at the local 6 Bells for dinner which was the perfect choice as it's a few minutes walk and has tasty food and good beer. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the shower room and toilet modern and new. We had to leave at 04:45 and Carmel left us breakfast including fresh fruit salad and took us to the airport. She was very considerate of the other guests still sleeping! Pick up on return worked well and the car was safely parked in their car park all week. Better value and much nicer than other options in the area. Many thanks.

We've stayed with Carmel & Clive several times now, and always found this guesthouse an ideal spot to stay at before our flights from Gatwick. This visit was no exception, and as usual, we were warmly greeted by Carmel and shown to our room. We were offered one of the 'new' refurbished rooms, which are lovely since they've been re-done, but this time we chose to stay in one of the older rooms at the back for the quiet, and had time to take our bags up and settle in before heading back downstairs to the dining room for a cup of tea and a chat.

The accommodation is in a good location and has everything you need for an overnight stay, tv & tea tray in the room, and even toiletries in the bathroom. We like the fact that the town is a pleasant stroll away - perfect for finding somewhere to eat and drink before bedding down for the night. Clive & Carmel are always ready to recommend various places to eat, whether you're after something specific or you're not sure where to start. Breakfast in the morning is Continental if you've got an early flight, or full cooked if you're not - I can't eat first thing, but not a problem here - my toastie breakfast was simply packed into a takeaway carton for me to take with me and eat when I was ready!

The transfers to the airport are efficient and timely, taking only a few minutes, and on your return the collection process (provided you land & clear customs before midnight) is simple and doesn't take long. Carmel can recommend a local taxi firm if you need it for arrivals after midnight, but when we arrived and rang them at 1am they said they were fully booked until 3am! So we got a taxi to Cumberland for £9 from the firm operating within the arrivals hall instead.

Recommend if you're looking for an overnighter at Gatwick - we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The recently refurbished rooms are very nice & modern. The older rooms at the back of the house...

Arrived at Gatwick at 8pm, next flight was 7am. Inquired at the information desk for an overnight stay and was at the Cumberland House within a few minutes. A great night's sleep, very early breakfast and back at Gatwick in plenty of time for the morning flight. Thanks Carmel for your hospiltaity.

This was about my 5th stay at this venue in the last 3 years. It is situated about 4 mins by car from the Gatwick terminals. Carmel & Clive (the owners) have invested wisely in re-vamping all the guest rooms & the breakfast room. It's a perfect place to stay if you are flying from Gatwick the following day & you wish to leave your car in safe hands during your trip. Although they don't take responsibility for any damage to your vehicle, I have never had a problem. Also, unlike some other venues, no miles have ever been put on my car while I have been away.
Clive gives you a lift to the airport on the day of your flight & collects you from Gatwick on return. This is included in the price. I think I paid about £90 for a twin/double room which included breakfast, the lift both ways to the airport & leaving the car there for a week.
Clive & Carmel couldn't be more friendly & I will use this venue every time I will fly from Gatwick in the future.

A big thank you to Carmel and Clive for their warm welcome and hospitality. We stayed per flight and our room was beautifully decorated, fantastic bathroom, and a lovely continental breakfast as we had an early start. On return we were collected by Clive within five minutes of ringing. Found this lovely place by trawling Internet and am so glad we stayed. See you next time!

We stayed at the Cumberland House on Friday 5th October. The position of the hotel to Gatwick is excellent, we were greeted warmly upon our arrival by both Clive and Carmel. Our room had a great en-suite shower room, with TV, wifi and tea and coffee making facilities - all excellent. Recommendations were made where to get dinner - again excellent. From the time I made the initial booking to the time we were delivered back to the hotel upon our return from Egypt we could not fault a thing. Our breakfast was delicious on the Saturday morning, both Carmel and Clive are great hosts and very amusing! Clive went out of his way to help us, whilst travelling to the hotel we had a problem with a tyre and we were so relieved when Clive said he would keep an eye on the tyres during our holiday. True to his word when we were met late Monday evening at Gatwick by Clive, he advised us that there seemed to have been no problem in our absence - which was an utter relief as the weather was truly dreadful and we were therefore able to set off home with that weight off our minds. If you are looking for a hotel at a reasonable price with great service provided with a smile then this is the place for you. I have already stored their business card as I would not hesitate to stay at the Cumberland again and will recommend with no hesitation to family and friends either. Thank you Clive and Carmel.
