Gorgeous views from a pristine cottage that is well designed and decorated, very comfortable, and equipped with every amenity, from a big whirlpool bath to a beautiful kitchen. The lakefront, while rocky, has canoes, kayaks and more, plus a very cool floating trampoline, and lakes just don't get any prettier than Willoughby. It could have been heaven...but it wasn't, and for the silliest reasons. For four adults, we had four bath towels, two face towels, and two washcloths. We ran out of toilet paper because we were given a single roll... each of three days! The pillows and linens weren't bad but were not up to the standards dictated by the price of the cottage. These and other factors amount to being made to feel like a customer rather than a guest.

We are sorry for your feeling that you were a customer rather than a guest. After this posting and one on 8/25 we am not aware of the lack of t.p.in our rooms. While this may not have been the case for you, many of our 4 Lakeview cottage guests do not find the additional 2 sets of towels, hand towels and face cloths in the vanity plus the 2 towel by the Jacuzzi.

The location of the Inn is lovely, right across the street from the lake. There is a nice dock to swim from, and canoes are provided. The inn is disappointing because it feels more like a motel than an inn. The historic character of the building has been completely removed, and the whole place has been renovated to cover over any of the original features. It's comfortable enough if you are looking for more of a motel/hotel experience, but it is a shame that they couldn't have created a more Vermont country inn atmosphere, in a building that has so much history.

Everyone is certainly is entitled to his/her own opinion. I am comfortable in saying that many of our guests feel that the Inn and our 8 cottages are extremely appealing, particularly, in this very special setting.

Let's be completely honest....there is not much around the Willoughvale Inn and Cottages. That can be a good/bad thing. It is kind of the big fish in a very small pond. Gas, newspapers, groceries can be found 15 min away in Glover.
That being said, the location is excellent for solitude and relaxation. Direct access to the water, a short walk to a beach area, free use of canoes, kayaks, etc. A short distance to great hiking (Mt. Pisgah, Mt Hor).
We stayed in the Gazebo Room - a large room with knockout views from the attached gazebo porch. We found this a perfect place for morning coffee and a good read. The bed is very firm (I like that) and the jacuzzi was appreciated after a long day of hiking.
Gil's, the attached restaurant and bar is satisfactory, but once again there is literally nothing comparable nearby. The breakfast every morning is standard continental fare - only hot items are scrambled eggs and pancakes. Roy Clark, the innkeeper, is an affable and attentive.

This Inn is in a beautiful location and, with more time and better weather, we might have been able to take advantage of the lake. It is fairly isolated with few other nearby choices for eating. There are some nice hikes in the area. The breakfast was fair at best with one item cold and overcooked. Our room as fine, but one of the lake front cabins looks like the way to go, if available.

We are very sorry for your poor experience with our continental breakfast food. I appreciate your feelings about it and will talk with our breakfast person regarding the temperature of our heated food.

Lovely building and grounds in the middle of nowhere. Very peaceful and quiet. Check inn very efficient and our room was large with a great view of the lake. The decor could use some updating. The bed was comfortable after we stuffed a couple of pillows in back to keep the mattress from slipping down. There is no tub but the shower was great. There was a fridge in the room which we needed as we could not find a restaurant that was open and had to buy sandiches and other supplies in town. We were there in off season so that was probably why. Meanwhile the saandwiches were really good.

We had alot of difficulty closing the blinds at night. It took about 20 minutes to close one but the second one would not budge. We called the number we were given if problems arose but no answer. After about 30 minutes my husband was able to fix the problem and close the blind.

There is no restaurant but a very nice continental breakfast was available and staff were friendly. While we had some issues I think it was the time we were there and if you are looking for a quiet area with beautiful scenery this would be a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Second floor room in front has beautiful lake view.

Thank you for your comments, which will help us focus on making improvements to the room. I believe I know from providing extra pillows to some guests which room you were in and will address the problem including the blind operation. Our restaurant, Gil's, was open Wednesday to Sunday for dinner until July 2 and after September 1st to Columbus Day. During July and August it is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5:30 until 8:00 pm. The balance of the year we are planning to be open Friday and Saturday nights.

I wanted to take a moment to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay there this weekend. The Robert Frost at The WilloughVale Inn was the perfect spot for our quick overnight getaway; I only regret not booking a longer stay. I felt welcomed from the first time I spoke with Roy and even more once I was greeted at check in, I didn’t get the girl’s name there, but she was great then as well as extremely helpful with our various requests etc. The condition / comfort level of the cottage was excellent and my kids loved the play structure and beautiful lake. Hiking around there was awesome and again I want to thank both Roy and the girl at the desk for pointing me and my kids in the right direction there. We had so much fun, we’re planning on making your inn an annual tradition!

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Room Tip: We loved The Robert Frost cottage.
