This pub has been a favorite of ours for a few years. The pub itself is lovely inside with a real fire going in the winter, and in the summer the beer garden is hard to beat with beautiful views of the South Downs. The food is always excellent and there is always a decent range of ales on tap, and the service we have received has always been top notch.

We often come here for special occasions (birthdays etc), and even looked into holding our wedding reception here - in the end we went for somewhere a bit nearer to where we live, but we will keep coming back here whenever possible!

We stopped here for lunch whilst on a bike ride at the foot of the mud and snow covered South Downs Way. The location is superb. The staff were friendly and welcoming, as was the log fire. The ale was wonderful and the food was tasty and good value. This review is representative of all six of us so I've no hesitation in awarding this Pub/Inn five stars.

My partner wanted to take his parents out for lunch while we were visiting them in Chichester between Christmas and New Year. Our first choice in Bosham was fully booked for a private function and our next few choices were all closed until January 11th! By now we were beginning to feel that no one wanted us so we were very relieved when we found that The Unicorn was not only open but could take our booking.

It is a while since my partner and his parents last visited this country pub/restaurant but their past experiences here had been good so we were hoping that things would be pretty much as they remembered.

The pub is located in a small village a few miles outside Midhurst. It was wet and windy with a lot of low cloud when we visited so we couldn't fully appreciate the surrounding South Downs scenery. The pub has a garden and on summer days I imagine it would be a great place to come after a good walk in the hills. On this occasion, however, we were just glad to get inside and enjoy some good food.

We sat in the restaurant which is set off to one side of the tradiitonal country pub bar area and overlooks the garden. It's quite small, simply furnished and welcoming - ideal for an older clientele who are not seeking gastro-pub dining.

We all opted for the tomato soup as a starter which was just as it should be: homemade, thick and delicious. Three of us then chose the pheasant breast with chorizo stuffing while my partner's mum had the sea bass fillet with pine nut crust, all accompanied by a selected of well cooked vegetables including cauliflower in a very tasty cheese sauce and red cabbage.

The pheasant was fabulous, well-cooked and plentiful, with the chorizo enhancing the flavour of the game without overpowering it. The sea bass also went down very well. My partner and I decided to share a dessert and opted for the stem ginger and orange sponge pudding with custard. This tasted more orangey than gingery but was, neverless, a pleasantly light finish to the meal.

My partner's parents thoroughly enjoyed the meal, as did we. We couldn't fault the food which was delicous and excellent value. Four starters, four mains, one dessert, 3 glasses of wine, one beer and four coffees came to £105 which we thought was extremely reasonable. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing (the restaurant was about half full on the day we visited), and it all felt very comfortable and cosy - just the job. Recommended.

We recently attended a special 'mussels' night at the Unicorn and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The staff at the Unicorn are very friendly. The beer, wine and food are excellent. This particular night was busy and there was a lovely 'buzz' around the pub. I have had the pleasure of visiting this pub on a number of occasions and cannot recommend it enough.

We had a marvelous lunch here. Our party of four had very different culinary needs and we were all satisfied with the beerand wine choices and the interesting starters and mains. The deserts were also superb. They did a fabulous samphire and crayfish starter that was fresh and delicious. They also serve probably the best chips I've had in England. Everything takes place in a delightfully decorated and welcoming old-world style atmosphere.
