“Lovely birthday experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

Stayed here in the summer for my birthday on a Sunday night. We arrived for check in and had afternoon tea which was beautiful and delicious. The waiters were fantastic and brought out further rounds of tea and coffee. The coffee was amazing. My other half had a salmon salad instead of the tea and cakes while I indulged! The salad looked fantastic also.
We then checked into our room, I believe it was called the white room or white suite? Beautiful big room with four poster bed. Overlooking the front of the hotel with lavender in bloom and beautiful Sussex sunset. The bed was incredibly comfy and the bathroom had a lovely free standing bath but no shower which was fine for us only staying one night. The bathroom had lovely spa goodies from their Temple spa which smell Devine.
We then relaxed after eating my body weight in afternoon tea and cakes and then later had some cocktails the hotels bar as we were early for our dinner reservation. The cocktails took half an hour and with no other customers in the bar...I thought we'd been forgotten but then did eventually come out when we were shown to our table which wasn't a huge problem. They were delicious. Perfect Cosmo and some sort of Rum Collins.
We then both had crab cakes and then duck for main. Food was fantastic but service could have been better. We weren't asked if we wanted any more drinks through out our dinner which was a shame and as the restaurant was busy, we couldn't get anyone's attention. We waited for some time after we'd finished our main and eventually left as no one came back to us so I'm afraid we gave up on the idea of getting any dessert which was a shame. I would eat here again but hopefully service would have improved. Bit disappointing given it was my birthday dinner.
We then arrived fairly early for breakfast the next day. There was a great selection of continental bits available, we went for cooked which was delicious. Great decent ingredients. Service was very quick and efficient. Tea/coffee toast, more toast, very happy!
We then checked out but used the spa throughout the afternoon as staying guests can use the facilities until the early eve I believe which meant we could relax and not have to rush to check out mid swim. Spa was almost empty which was great. Lovely temple spa goodies in the showers. We didn't use any treatments so cannot comment.
I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the white room or white suite which was four poster with a roll top free standing bath...

We went here recently for a pre-dinner drink while staying elsewhere in Midhurst for the weekend. The building is full of character and the open fire in the bar is great for Autumn / Winter evenings.

However we considered £14 for a GnT and a Bloody Mary to be bordering on obscene!

This is our 3rd or 4th stay at the Spread Eagle for a relaxing start to our half term. Both being teachers we were in need of some quality relaxation. As usual the service was fantastic and the rooms very comfortable. Both our massages were good, as a therapist myself I am highly critical! Stephanie massaged me and Lindsey massaged Alison (well done girls!!).
The only let down during our overnight stay was that there were children in the pool and they were not quiet. As it was a Spa break, noisey children jumping in and out of the pool and splashing certainly wasnt ideal. If they had been quiet it would be a different matter.
We will, however return soon. Our evening meal was so yummy, we had a fab starter and the Cheese Souffle mmmmmm.... The staff were as usual very friendly. Thanks and see you again soon...

Room Tip: I think we were in room 10, a standard room. It was fine and very clean

We stayed in the Spread Eagle hotel on 30th October 2013 on the way to visit our son in Brighton. We had a horrendous journey but were greeted very hospitably and efficiently and were offered a free upgrade to the Queen's Suite. As we had only booked a standard room as this was only a one night stay, this was very much appreciated. The Queen's Suite is absolutely stunning with many period features. It is very spacious and has everything one would need for a fabulous stay. (Find the hidden television in the bedroom!) I would recommend it completely. The staff are a real credit to the hotel (all of them), they remembered our names and were all very efficient and welcoming. The restaurant was superb with great service. The food wonderful. Breakfast was comprehensive and very well presented. We had a marvellous stay and would recommend this hotel to all. We hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Try the Queen's Suite. It is superb.

On this occasion we just can't fault the "Spread". We've just enjoyed a family birthday lunch for 6 and from start to finish it was superb.
Started with drinks and canapés in the bar by the log fire. The lovely waitress explained the menu and took our order. We were delighted to be in the private Queens Room!
All the food was fantastic from the hake & scallops, calves liver, sea bass, partridge, risotto and the absolute best cheerse soufflé ever. It is epic.
Plus a couple of puddings and coffee and we were done.
Congrats to Ted the manager and thanks to all the staff, especially Richard the chef- thanks, a lovely lunch and we will be back.

I am a regular visitor to the hotel and the spa, and spent another lovely day there this week. It's my escape from a very hectic life and a chance to re-charge. I'm always warmly welcomed to the hotel and kicked off my day with a massage from Lyndsey who I consider to be particularly gifted. She has a warm, easy way with people and amazing hands. The spa is clean, comfortable and staff always go that extra mile to make sure their guests are happy. Lunch was eaten in the conservatory and the food was good. As a vegetarian I usually have to make a choice from only one or two dishes, and sadly this is still the case at the Spread, meaning that if you visit often, you end up having to eat the same thing every time, and this can be a little uninspiring. My partner, who is a fully fledged carnivore and loves to eat fish, delights in the menu and always reports that his food is very good. Lunch was equisitely served by staff who managed to be attentive without hovering. Indeed, it is the warm understated welcome and friendliness in rather quaint yet quirky surroundings that makes visiting the Spread such a delightful, relaxing little escape. And whilst I was too full to manage one this time, their cream teas are absolutely yummy.

Had a family birthday celebration in the hotel function room, champagne aperitif, full english afternoon tea served beautifully. Staff were very friendly and helpful, we arrived in a torrential downpour, but they got us dried off and settled.
