Dinner took 1 hour 45 minutes for the starters to arrive. The chef had even managed to burn the gravy while leaving the liver uncooked! Suggest that you go to the nice-looking pubs by ging out the gate and turn left into the village.
Beds are hard.
Having the free parking is the only positive about this hotel . Returning to the hotel will be quicker and cheaper by taxi if there are two or more of you travelling.

Few redeeming features.
3 laps of the car park to find a spot; 20 minute check-in; small room (208); aircon not working; no dinner availability (at 19:30) - though the pub down the road IS nice; key didn't work on day 2; NO HOT WATER on morning 2!!!; tried to charge me for 3 breakfasts in a 2 night stay on checkout; £8 per day parking.
The hotel was packed so they clearly have no incentive to improve their standards. But my advice is go elsewhere - there must be better options.

What a terrible hotel. I thought Thistle hotels were of a good standard but this was even worse than a two star hotel. Do not stay here unless you are desperate and can't find a room elsewhere. Parking is a non existent nightmare, the room is shabby, tired, in desperate need of a refurb. The bath was grim with black mould up the tiles. Window couldn't be opened so ancient air con system left you with a raging sore throat by morning. We were glad to have an early flight so we could get out of the place. Truly hideous

Firstly the positives; The room was clean, the staff helpful, the price was reasonable and the location is good (nice little pub a few minutes walk away). However, the Heathrow Thistle is a tatty, rather tired, hotel. Our room was smallish, had no coffee/tea facility, paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling, the furniture was scratched, the window (ground floor) could not be secured shut and the tv remote control didn't work. The pillows were thin and the bed incredibly hard, making for an uncomforatble night's sleep. The sound proofing within the hotel is almost non-existent and you can, therefore, hear anything going on in rooms and hallways adjacent to your own room. We passed on breakfast - the price was outrageous.
I guess many people use the Thistle, as we did, as a Airport car park with rooms. When we arrived it all appeared a bit chaotic with nowhere to park and no directions/help. It took 20 minutes waiting before we could check-in. Evidently, the car park was full and cars were being taken over to another secure (commercial) car park.

In conclusion, the Thistle is just about adequate at a budget price. But that's as far as it goes.

We visited the 4 star Thistle hotel in Heathrow on the 6th September 2009 as we had an early flight on the 7th. We rang to confirm that the rooms were soundproof as we needed an early night. We requested a family room and confirmed that the 3rd bed would be full sized, not a camp bed or pull out. This was all confirmed, we gave credit card details at that time.
On arrival staff on reception then needed our credit card details again and were adamant we had not paid. We disputed this but gave them as we had little choice if we wanted the room.
The room was small, there was not kettle or drinks facilities, the 3rd bed was a small and uncomfortable camp bed which did not fit my partner or the teenager. The bathroom had flaking paint and mould on the ceiling, the taps only dispensed hot or warm water - there was no cold water to be had.
Soundproofing - the room had double glazing and then a second closeable window, but as there were jumbo jets taking off within a few hundred yards this had little impact. The room shook with each plane, normal conversation could not be heard, the windows rattled and the TV reception became poor, this occurred every 3 - 6 minutes, as all flights stopped at 11pm we did at least get 4 hours sleep.
Information in the room regarding the restaurant was incorrect, the food facilities were expensive for very small meals. They did not allow for the Al la carte and childrens lighter bites to be served at the same table, this request was met by a large sigh and refusal.
We were promised an early continental breakfast but on departure were given a box containing cornflakes, milk, a juice carton and a snack bar. They also needed credit card details yet again. (We are sorting this out separately with the card company.)
They did have an excellent view of terminal 5, unfortunately the wooden fencing that was around it broken and it had large nails sticking out, we raised this with reception but they were not particularly interested.

We used this hotel for a nights stay before an early Heathrow Atlantic flight, and for 2 weeks parking.
It cost us £80 all in, only £5 more than 2 weeks parking alone!
Can't grumble at the value, hotel was a bit tired in the corridors and rooms, but it was clean.
Staff were all very friendly, the car parking spaces were a good size (im obsessive about where i park my car) although, when we returned others had not been as lucky and cars were parked literally everywhere, so y advoce would be , be careful where you park to avoid door dings.
Ideal for what it was, bar was expensive, gin and lemonade (single) £5!!

Excellent location for Heathrow flight connections. Corridors were a bit dark and tired but you soon forget that as you settle into your time at the hotel. There was a warm welcome from the minute I arrived at the hotel. An excellent restaurant with first class food. The breakfast room has excellent views to Terminal 5 and again the staff in the breakfast restaurant were fantastic and made my 5.30am start a pleasure.......RH
